backstory:

my parents house is falling apart. it was a sears house built in 1912 on a brick foundation and is literally falling apart. the ceiling in their bedroom has had one cave in because of a leak in the attic, and had a second leak but with a slower cave in. so my mom and i decided to renovate their bedroom while my dad was out of town installing a new deck on the beach house.

we started two weeks ago sunday. had to rip out the plaster ceiling and the plath that lay underneath it. we also had to relay insulation. last sunday my sister and i put up drywall on the ceiling. monday my mom patched the ceiling (not a great job, but what are you going to do). my mom left on tuesday morning not thinking we'd get anything done while she was away. so my sister and i since tuesday (as my parents anniversary gift):

- laid new carpet
- painted the walls, trim and doors
- primed and painted the ceiling
- put up crown molding and painted it

they didn't leave the outer banks until about 5:30, so they're definitely still on the road.

my mom is preparing my dad with the house being a total mess (since my dad didn't know she was doing it)

SO my mom thinks it's a mess, my dad will be mad at my mom for starting something she couldn't finish in time and then they'll get home and flip their shit

Mom and dad just called. They were excited. Mom was pissy about not having extra carpet (apparently she bought more than was needed) and annoyed we put up new crown.

They haven't seen the washer dryer yet. Waiting for that phone call.

I will say - I'm actually kind of pissed that my mom was that way about the carpet and crown. I mean - we finished a huge fucking project on the house

She was better about everything this morning when I talked to her. I think she was just in shock last night - diarrhea of the mouth if you will.

They finally saw the washer dryer this morning as well. Mom totally freaked and my dad is rather overwhelmed and slightly speechless. If you knew my dad, you'd know how momentous that is
