I'm making some graphs for a financial report and there are some limitations to what I see available in excel 2007. I'm wondering if there's an addon or a stand alone graphing app that's the norm for print works or benchmarking websites. I'm currently trying to make a 3d nested histogram. Basically the length of the bar indicates a total quantity and then the percentage of the bar that's filled up represents the percentage of that quantity that meets a certain criteria. Perhaps someone knows a tutorial for this kind of graph and I'm just calling it the wrong thing?

Question: Does it have to be an addon to Excel, or can you create the image elsewhere and copy / paste an image into Excel?

He could use ANYTHING, which is the problem.Virtually every reporting, charting and data visualization product out there supports excel integration.Depending on where the report is coming from, he may already have a solution available (Crystal Reports for instance)

R is pretty good. and freealso, I think you can do that in excel, just put it on a second x axis and make them overlap[Edited on November 23, 2009 at 10:33 PM. Reason : . ]

This was made with excel 2000. Highlighted the table, clicked the graph button, chose stacked bar, and changed the colors around. There is also a 100% stacked bar (all bars are the same length and the percentage is filled up).You could make it vertical with a stacked column graph. This is 2000, I have office 2007 at the house and feel like it's the same way. It will look prettier in 2007 as well. (I feel like you have more color choices and effects in 07)[Edited on November 24, 2009 at 10:39 AM. Reason : ]

I found the issue. There are some very odd behaviors with the UI in 2k7 when it comes to modifying parts of the chart. Selecting the part and then right clicking does not work. You need to open the property configuration menu for any item, then leave that window open and click the item you want to modify and only THEN will the configuration menu reflect the properties of the item selected
