My wife and I are eligible for this type of insurance for $18/mo. I'm leaning towards declining coverage, however, wanted some input in regards to this type of coverage. Anyone have accidental insurance coverage and/or had to file an accidental claim?

When I get insurance, it's usually on purpose. Same with making a claim. It's probably nice to have, though, for the folks who want insurance to just happen to them.

What would the insurance cover that health or life insurance wouldn't?

it doesn't pay for expenses, it pays to you^^meant to say "week"[Edited on November 12, 2009 at 7:24 PM. Reason : e.g. you break a finger, you get a check for $200]

Sounds pretty dumb unless you are in a line of work that would warrant such a thing.

i don't think it's a bad idea--i mean, medical insurance doesn't cover everything, and it also serves as ad&d insurance--but i prolly wouldn't get it if i had to pay for it

yeah, I don't think it's a bad idea either. I doubt I'm going to be losing an arm or leg any time soon (the only worthwhile payouts), therefore, I'm going to be keeping my $18/mo.I think this is great for klutzy people though.

I have had AFLAC at different times. It's worth it. I don't work a dangerous job, but I play sports, and am often getting hurt.Basically, when I have had it, it's like getting paid to get hurt, since my insurance has covered the bills. Pretty nice, considering the circumstances. And in actuality, I just dumbed it down a lot, but if you think of your time as a valuable investment, you can consider it this way:you lose time when you get hurt and have to go to the doctor, but who pays you for that? no one.if you get supplemental insurance (and it's cheap enough that you should never say no to it), then you're making sure that your time lost isn't detrimental to your paycheck. If you think of yourself and your time as a valuable resource, then SI is pretty much a requirement.

i have/use supplemental insurance. it's cheap and it helps.it pays for damn near everything when you are down for the count.nick is right on. it's cheap enough and if you earn enough, you might as well.[Edited on November 13, 2009 at 1:56 PM. Reason : read the fine print. make sure it will apply to you.]
