If I'm replacing my cigarette lighter and don't want to get shocked while disconnecting it (it's always on, even without the key in the ignition), can I just pull out its fuse from under the dashboard, or do I have to disconnect the battery cables?

you're not gonna get shocked you pussy[Edited on November 11, 2009 at 4:46 PM. Reason : no more likely than when disconnecting the battry cable, think about it smart guy]

I didn't worry about electrical hazards until I managed to pin myself under a dash by bumping the switch on the electric seat that caused the seat to come forward. I was royally screwed with my head shoved up behind the instrument cluster and my chest compressed completely...shallow breaths only. I still owe the guys that got me out a beer, come to think of it.Now Step 1 for me of anything except swapping wiper blades is disconnect negative battery cable. You can do what you want.[Edited on November 11, 2009 at 5:30 PM. Reason : Ironically, I was laying in the floorboard to pull a fuse.]

12V wont shock you unless you are wet. even then its not that bad

I went ahead and did it without disconnecting anything. No shocks. Now I don't have to pull out the ashtray to use the DC outlet.

Yeah, they laughed too. I didn't find it so funny. After the first couple seconds there was no way I could have escaped. The joystick switch was in my back and the seat was pushing that switch tight against me. I tried to break the seat motor off it's track but that sucker was a beast. My head was pressed against the brake pedal and I knew when that pedal got to the floor it would break my neck. So, onward and upward...[Edited on November 11, 2009 at 7:39 PM. Reason : I was almost killed by a Ford Tempo. Ok, yeah, maybe it is funny.]

i cant believe you couldn't break the seat motor in that thing, hell mine struggles when i'm sitting in it

Thats a sad story, why didnt you reach under the seat and rip the wiring out.
11/15/2009 11:04:59 PM
sounds like the seat gave him a reacharound

What would cause a fuse to melt the plastic, but not blow? Just a consistently high amperage, but not high enough to blow the fuse? I have one on my MJ that always melts.

cheap crappy fuses

Interesting theory... These fuses are both cheap, and crappy. Kinda fit with the rest of the truck
