leaked to what.cd last night as well. it's nice being able to let the album play all the way through instead of clicking around youtube. it's also nice that it has it's own thread now since no one is talking about it in the music 2009 thread. guess i shoulda thought of that sooner.[Edited on November 10, 2009 at 5:09 PM. never saw that. i got them all from the something awful forums and whoever posted them just included 13 links and embedded them in the thread and what not. i didn't feel like leaving the thread up, so i had to save all the links. oh well.

oh well check out Desert Sessions, if you dig qotsa.its basically everything he does in his spare time minus the Eagles of Death Metal side project. Homme has been a musical genius since Sons of Kyuss. I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.[Edited on November 10, 2009 at 5:43 PM. Reason : ]

i downloaded some desert sessions stuff like 2 and half years ago but never got around to listening to it. i'll keep that in mind for whenever i stop listening to TCV nonstop. but to support this

so rolling stone gave the album 3.5 out of 5 stars, just like they do for every other album they review unless it bashes george bush, praises democrats, was done by u2 or coldplay, or was influenced by u2 or coldplay.

I never understood why people listen to a reviewer's opinion about music.I mean its only 60 minutes of content, you can usually tell by 1 minute if it sucks or not. Then by 10 minutes you know pretty much whether you're going to ever listen to it again or not. Most bands don't make concept albums so its not like a movie review where you review the sense of style, the plot, the presentation and all that other crap. It generally boils down to 1) whether or not its an interesting sound/musicianship and 2) lyrical content/vocals skills.I do however like metal-archives because unlike other sites the people on there who review are users who have similar tastes with everyone who is typically reading a review. I can't expect a magazine to review TCV, Nickleback and No Doubt all in the same light because, well one of those things is not like the others.I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message[Edited on November 11, 2009 at 8:04 PM. ^ i generally don't give a shit about what reviewers think. usually i just browse message boards and check out the general consensus from regular people. but when something i like comes out i do kind of like to read reviews from rolling stone and pitchfork just so i can at them.

hey buddymy three favorite bands are pearl jam, u2 and led zeppelin (it doesn't mean that all i listen to is rock or rhythm and blues)it doesn't mean i don't listen to a lot of new music (or that i feel the need to push indie bands into my nostalgic top 10 list)and it doesn't mean i don't listen to a lot of old music (i probably listen to more pre-60s music than any other wolfwebber)but you gotta let that review stuff gothe new album is awesome for the peeps who want to listen to it

Just got this last night and like what I've listened to so far.

^^ my 3 favorite bands are pearl jam, led zeppelin, and my morning jacket. i'm used to some of that material not being well received by reviewers from rolling stone, pitchfork, and all music. their opinions have little to no bearing on my enjoyment. like i said, i just like to read their reactions because half the time reviewers either say nothing (i.e. rolling stone's review of TCV), or they just obviously didn't get what the band was going for. for instance, whoever reviewed pearl jam's yield from all music gave it 2.5 stars out of 5, and his only reason why was pretty much because it didn't rock hard enough. a majority of pearl jam fans i have met say yield is their favorite or at least the band's strongest album. i was just pointing out rolling stone's reviewers being unable to deviate from their standard practices outside of those situations i listed.

11/18/2009 9:57:27 PM
^ stp? really?
11/18/2009 10:24:35 PM
im listening to it right now. If I wasnt told JPJ was involved I would have just figured it was a new QOTSA album.
11/19/2009 9:16:46 AM
^^ there were a couple tracks that did remind me of old stp
11/19/2009 1:33:51 PM
^^ yeah a lot of it sounds very QOTSA-ish, but at least the keyboard in "scumbag blues" is textbook JPJ
