Probably going to catch hell, but I agree with this. I loved Pee-wee's Big Adventure but all his other stuff? If he is announced as the director I can just close my eyes and imagine the movie and not be too far off. My imagination even casts correctly - of course that doesn't take hardly any imagination.

I agree that M. Night Shamalamadingdong is a hack, but he had 2 good movies. Unbreakable and 6th Sense.
How has Michael Bay been left out?

because pretty much everyone already considers Bay and Shyamalan to be hacks at this point, so it's pretty hard to say they're overrated.

Who/what are you raging against Ronny?

This thread is silly.

Who overrates the Wachowski Bros.?

Never heard anyone talk about how awesome the Wachowski Bros. are.

Except maybe advertisements for their movies.

Wrong.

This thread is another perfect opportunity to trot out our opinions as fact while hating on the opinions of others and insulting their intelligence. Isn't that what the entertainment section is all about?

Wes Fucking Anderson. Yes, I said it.

I've only seen two of his movies: The Life Aquatic and The Darjeeling Limited. The Life Aquatic was decent, but the Darjeeling Limited FUCKING SUCKED. I haven't seen the Royal Tenenbaums, and I'm not saying he's complete shit as a director. I'm just saying that he isn't an AWESOME director, and he definitely doesn't deserve all the ass kissing and dick sucking that perpetually gets thrown his way.

Death Proof is pretty terrible but I give QT a pass on Jackie Brown b/c it isn't an original screenplay.

^^the zombie one was awesome though...death proof had too much dialogue and not enough action, but the action scenes were cool

Jackie Brown was good for the soundtrack alone + Deniro + Jackson

Yeah Planet Terror is good. And the fake trailers were good.

I think Death Proof was just some garbage that QT had to get out of his system.

i don't know who said it aws good up there. but unbreakable is one of the worst movies i've ever seen. and any hope of a decent ending was ruined by the last five minutes of over-explaining what should have been obvious to everyone from about halfway in.

unbreakable had one of the worst scenes in movie history, where the kid brought out the gun at the dinner table, so pathetically written and acted, it was hilarious
but the movie as a whole i think is still pretty good
part of shamalamadingdongs problem is writing some really cheesy scenes in fairly decent flicks, plus having too high standards from his audience

also ignoring Axlbonbach

as far as speed racer i may give it another shot

but the reason i made this thread is how overrated director's usual story is they make some decent flicks, make a really great flick, then they go away for a long time cause they know they cant follow it up, and when they finally come out of hiding they come up with a real stinker

although james cameron is proven good, is he gonna go the same route?

However the scene was directed very well, steady cam to hand held cam as soon as you see the kid has the gun. Shit is great.

M. Night can direct a movie, he needs to stop doing his own work and branch out.

Tim Burton, if highly rated, is overrated. Every Burton movie is just action figures placed in different dollhouses/dioramas. Though BATMAN does hold a nostalgic place in my heart for childhood VHS viewings.

Wes Anderson is overrated if you think he is the BEST DIRECTOR we have. If he is your favorite director, well, you like that thing and I can't blame you. I like it, too.

To suggest that Ridley Scott, who directed ALIEN and BLADE RUNNER, is anything other than properly-rated is absolute inanity.

IF AVATAR IS JUST TWO HOURS OF CGI JAMES CAMERON TAKING A SHIT HE'LL STILL GET A PASS. THE MAN WAS IN CHARGE OF ALIENS, TERMINATOR, TERMINATOR 2, RAMBO, and THE ABYSS.

James Cameron is the best sequel writer of all time.

And Tim Burton is really really good.

Corpse Bride and Sweeney Todd and Planet of the Apes are not him at his finest for sure, but the rest of his catalog is pretty solid. Hard to call him overrated unless your lone source is the little group that considers him god, but you can say that about any director. Burton's cult is just a bit more odd and eccentric and potentially annoying than those of other directors. But Batman and Beetle Juice and Edward Scissorhands are MONEY BABY.

The fact that I've only seen two of Wes Anderson's movies is irrelevant you dipshits. Elitist pricks and movie snobs make this guy out to be the fucking savior of American cinema, and in my opinion Life Aquatic was mediocre and Darjeeling Limited sucked ass. His movies simply don't deserve the praise and adoration they get. Of course, this is all my opinion, and if you don't like it, then you can politely go fuck yourself. But if two of his movies don't do it for me, then who is to say the others will be different?

To each his own, you fucking idiots.
