Okay, so as I've said in the Windows 7 thread, I've had some serious issues trying to upgrade from Vista to 7 on my Dell laptop. I didn't do a complete backup before upgrading (yeah, yeah, I know), but I'm currently stuck in the endless reboot cycle that a lot of people have come across in installation. I wanted to backup my HD before doing anything else, so I popped in a Ubuntu live CD I had and copied everything to an external HD (previously formatted to NTFS, I believe, or whatever the default option is in Windows XP).With the data backed up, I hooked up the external HD to my desktop (running XP), and the strangest thing happened: I can't see the files I backed up while running in Ubuntu. Everything else on the drive (that had previously been copied there) is there, and I can see/use the files on the drive when I'm in Ubuntu, but they just aren't there according to Windows XP. Has anybody come across this before? What's the solution? Should I just torrent a Windows live CD? Blerg.

I was trying to figure out what this thread title was about but then I realized HD wasn't meant to mean high definition.generally its better to use HDD...at least i think so.

^^ I don't think that does what I need... These are files copied onto an NTFS-formatted drive. There's not ext2/3 filesystem to speak of, just files copied to an NTFS HD while running Ubuntu.

Has NTFS write support been developed that seriously since the last time I checked?

I honestly have no idea. The files are there when the drive is plugged into something running Ubuntu, and they're gone when they're plugged into something running XP. It's like that movie where they pick up a hitchhiker and then ask somebody about her in the next town over and they're like THAT GIRLS BEEN DEAD FOR THIRTY YEEEAAARSS! Or something.I give up, I'm just torrenting a windows bootable CD to redo it that way.]

Ahaha the files DO show up on the boot CD I torrented.
