A little something different from BobbyDigital...

Nourish International, a nonprofit organization that was started by a friend of mine at... (yep) UNC , is competing in a national giving challenge where the group that gets the most people to donate $10 or more (anything more doesn't give us extra credit) wins an extra $1000 on top of the money you donate. The contest goes from 3pm today to 3pm tomorrow. Currently, we are ranked 7th in the US in the Facebook America's Giving Challenge.

In order to become a donor, all you need to do is pledge $10. It's very, very simple... and it makes a huge impact.

Here are instructions for how to donate. Please donate between 3pm on Thursday and 3pm on Friday (all EST).

1. Go here: http://www.causes.com/donations/select_donation_method?cause_id=48229
2. Click on "Connect with Facebook" if you have a facebook account
and log in. Click "Donate Without Facebook" if you do not have facebook
3. Enter your information
4. Click "Donate Now" at the bottom of the screen.
5. Wait for the bar to load and your receipt to appear before closing
the window. Print your receipt for a tax deduction.
6. Forward this email to any friends you think will give! We can use
all the help we can get!

Here's a little sampling of what Nourish International has done in the past year to provide solutions:

* Mumbai, India: Provided over 200 women with relocation assistance, seeds, fruit trees, fertilizers etc. and an agricultural engineer to assist the women with cultivating, harvesting, and marketing crops and fruits.

* Mbale, Uganda: Provided over 200 impoverished students per year with access to courses in Carpentry, Masonry, Computer, Agriculture, Tailoring and Art. This education helps these students develop trade skills to pull themselves out of poverty.

* Jucumarini, Bolivia: Constructed a micro-irrigation system to provide a constant water source to an isolated village, allowing the village's inhabitants to increase the diversity of their agricultural products. Primarily, the production of alfalfa, to support dairy cows, increased. Milk from the cattle provide a much needed source of protein and increase the nutritional status of children in Jucumarini.

what does the winner of the competition get/loser have to do?

The winning charity gets an additional $1000 from facebook. The losers get whatever donations people contributed to said charities.

is it a US based 501.3(c)?

If I donate, and get my company to match the donation, does that count twice?

Not sure about the company match question. I imagine it probably won't work as the donations have to go through the facebook causes portal to "count" towards the contest.
