So my wife's POS Daewoo finally kicked the bucket today. We're looking for a new daily commuter for her and have the following criteria:* Reliable* Sub $10,000* Sub 100k miles (more or less)* Good gas mileageOn top of all that, she is partial to hatchbacks for whatever reason. We've been looking at Yarises (Yarii?), Focuses (Foci???), etc. Found a local dealer with a 2006 Scion xA with decent mileage, seems to fit all the criteria, but we don't know a super lot about cars so we wanted to get a few second opinions. Any thoughts on the 2006 xA? Any reason why that was the last year they made it? Any counter-proposals?Thanks!

On an unrelated note, anybody wanna buy a completely non-working Daewoo Leganza?

I dunno much about it, except it's a Yota. And I've rarely gone wrong with Toyotas. Except for a '92 Turd-cel that I owned, which happened to be one big hunk of shit.No. I don't want to get Daewoo on me.[Edited on October 22, 2009 at 10:41 PM. Reason : No Daewoo]

IIRC, the xA and xB both have (had...they don't make the xB anymore, do they?) the echo engine in them, so you could probably look at the echo track record to get an idea of mechanical reliability (though, as mentioned, it's a toyota, so there's probably not much to be worried about)the scions have cheaper interiors than the toyota equivalents...even the yaris has seemingly better build quality, but this is all relative...i drive a saturn, so it doesn't take much

Honda Jazz.Orders of magnitude better looking than any Toyota hatchback, and zippier as well. I rented one recently, a manual, and it was fun, for a car with that small engine. And the interior was actually very good looking. And the car is gorgeous.

Megan Fox is gorgeous, Honda Jazz not so much.

Point taken, but I was talking relative to the Yaris and xA.Mazda and Mitsu don't have competitors in that class in the US.Nissan has the Versa, and that's not bad looking. Anyway, it is a Nissan. (reliability issues)Go for Fit, or if you want a Toyota, a Yaris or an xA. Forget Focus.

I wouldn't mind having an xB if it was cheap.[Edited on October 23, 2009 at 4:09 PM. Reason : (and I could make a trailer hitch for it)]
