Does anyone know why the blue-shirted persons are stationed outside the (Colleseum) deck? They seem to be checking for permits, but why?

My theory is that budget cuts have reduced the number of actual permit checkers and they're trying to catch cross parking at the entrances. Anyone know?

Because waiting to ticket these assholes after they park doesn't help with overcrowding in the deck.

^No...I meant that their current employees who usually write the tickets are instead being stationed at the deck's entrance. Therefore, no new employees and no volunteers. Which means no extra money going into it.

The only drawback I can see is that they're writing less tickets because they're preventing those people from parking. Which means they are getting less revenue. I'm sure its working as a better deterrent than the small number of employees they currently have just walking/driving around writing tickets. You can only cover so much space.

Are you serious? A lot people who knowingly park illegally have a dashbox full of parking tickets and just don't care.

True, although they're not out there all day, every day, just during peak hours, so ticket revenue hasn't been completely eliminated from that deck.

In certain parking areas (coliseum may not be one anymore...) it usually works out cheaper to take your chances with getting a parking ticket, than to actually buy a parking pass.

^they've started cracking down more on the coliseum deck.

best spot to take your chances is the paylot in front of harris, imo.

i just suck it up and pay for the dan allen deck paylot since i'm only on campus 2 days a week to start with cheaper than a permit

NCSU doesn't get to keep the ticket revenue, it goes to WCPS. However, freeloaders illegally parking (and overcrowding the deck) hurts everyone.

^yeh... well I think transportation gets like 10% of ticket revenue. so by not writing as many tickets, they really aren't hurting their bottom line. they'll just keep jacking up parking pass prices each year.

the one semester I didn't have a permit, i parked in Dan Allen 4 days a week, and I only got 1 ticket for 40 bucks... so instead of pay 400 for a permit, I paid 10% for 1 ticket and parked in the same place. I played it safe though and parked alllll the way at the top, in the spots farthest away from the road


that being said, I never had a problem finding a spot, even having to park my big ol' truck... people just bitch and moan when their asses have to walk down/up a couple flights of stairs (and this is after have 2 years of CD and 1 year of DA and 1 year of employee)

^^ They've been out there the last few days between 1-3:00. I've seen them multiple times driving around and looking. Yesterday saw them driving around the top-top level of Coliseum deck.

I wouldn't park in this deck if I didn't have a permit. People probably used to be able to get away with it, but deck space is really limited this year due to how the parking situation was implemented. They sold more spots and instituted new cross-campus parking regulations.
