So my neighbor gave me a couple sticks of ram he had laying around. I went to install them and found out they were the wrong size. I closed everything back up and went to boot up my pc and now my monitors arent getting signal. Ive tried using one monitor at a time, i swapped the video cards and tried but im getting nothing. The pc is one i bought off someone three years ago, its worked flawlessly since. Any ideas as to what could have gotten messed up?

Are you hearing any particular beep codes when booting? Are the little fans spinning inside? Does it seem like everything is posting up and you just aren't getting video?I'd actually rule out a partially unseated video card, because that would probably fuck up the posting process and you'd hear beeping. Check to make sure the fans are spinning on the video card and CPU. If everything seems normal then double check your connections on the back of the video card and the back of the monitor(s). Double-check that the monitors are powered. (not calling you an idiot, just laying everything out there since there wasn't a ton of information).

Naw i would rather you go through all possibilities and treat me like a noob. Im not computer stupid but im not the most savvy. Im not getting any beep codes. Ive tried every combo of two monitors and a tv, through vga and dvi. I found someone through google who said they had the same problem and their ram was causing it. I tried both my sticks of ram seperately and it didnt work with either. And yes the power is fine - and all fans are working.

Are you seeing anything happen on the monitor? Like does the standby light go from amber to green at all or do you see any flicker?Try unseating and re-seating your video card. Try using the same card in another machine. What type of video card is it? It may have an internal power connector that you forgot to plug back in. Did you say you saw (or heard) fans spinning on the video card itself.I've never heard of bad ram causing video failure without any beep codes. What you're describing sounds like either the video card is unseated, not connected to the monitor, not powered, or toast.

So apparently it was my processor. Somehow while installing ram my processor fried itself. So I bought a new one and I'm back up and running. Woo!
