Trying to run this set up... HDMI to my TV and the Multi-AV to my receiver for audio. This worked at one time, and apparently one of Sony's system updates decided to break the whole idea. Both cables work fine... I've tested each alone to verify that my hardware/cables were okay. Anyone else running this set up or have any idea why it's not working? FWIW, I've reset to factory settings a couple dozen times and Google'd the piss out of this issue. Sony's phone support doesn't seem to include humans and I have yet to get a response from their e-mail support.

I've done something similar with the xbox for capturing game play. Had the component cables hooked up to the TV and the RCA cables hooked up to the computer for capturing. (doesnt answer your question though haha)

Are you sure you have done the settings right? Go to Display settings to turn on hdmi video and then at the end of that it will ask if you want to select audio output options, do that and pick the multi-av. Mine let me make the selections for both of those but I don't have a way to test it.

Yeah, I've done exactly that, and I've manually gone back to Sound Settings and selected Multi-AV there as well. No-go at all while I'm using HDMI for my video out.

HDMI to the TV and optical out to a receiver should work.

Most TVs will only pass through 2 channel audio in that config, FYI.

Honestly don't want to use optical at all, especially since I don't have an optical cable. The goal was to figure out how to use what did work. The Multi-AV and Optical out are two different things. Granted, I may have to go that route.. the money may be worth not wasting any more time on this whole deal.

On hold with Sony support now.. despite ignoring nearly everything I said in e-mails to their support, the very last sentence in one response told me how to talk to a person.. we'll see how this goes...

-- Finally got to talk to a person. The guy was a bit of a douche about the whole thing; said he wouldn't make me go through the steps to set up the audio like the FAQ... and then more or less did. Either way, in a moment of House-like inspiration I changed some settings on my receiver to try 2-channel... badda-bing. Turns out, only certain sound fields on my receiver will work because the Multi-AV only uses 2-Channel... My receiver was/is able to output 2-Channel audio to all the speakers in my 5.1, it just has to be on certain sound fields. Looks like I'll eventually be headed to Optical-land for true surround, but this will do for now. Either way, thanks for the responses guys.
