I have a 2007 Chevy Cobalt. (Yes, I know it's a crappy car.) I want to permanently install a garage door opener somewhere (the thing needs a replacement battery every couple weeks and it pissing me off).

I thought I could put it in the steering wheel where the radio controls would normally go. I cut the circuit board down so now it it'll fit inside the compartment where the radio controls go and soldered some leads to it to which I can attach a button.

Does anyone know where I can find info on the electrical system of the car (i.e. what I can use as a power source without deploying the airbag or screwing with the radio) and how to install a button without it looking like crap? I thought about buying the panel with the radio controls on it, but it has a bunch of buttons that would end up being unused and it's expensive.

Any other suggestions on where I could put it?
