So, my parents are coming up Thursday to stay the night and take care of me on Friday, when I'm getting surgery. I have absolutely no idea what is out there apart from google.comAny great places? Places to avoid?

what hospital?

For graduation, my parents stayed at the place across the street from the RBC Center (behind Backyard Bistro) but I can't remember the name of it. It seemed like a pretty nice place and pretty close to Rex if that's where you are having the surgery.

I recommend Candlewood Suites to everyone I know. They are awesome. Super clean, super professional, full kitchen in every room, laundry facilities, gym, business center, there's also a "store" based on the honor system where you can buy lots of stuff, including all sorts of food at regular price. There is one right near Crabtree Valley Mall, ~ 7 minute drive to Rex; also one in Cary near Crossroads.http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cw/1/en/hotel/rducthttp://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cw/1/en/hotel/rducwDo not let them stay on New Bern Avenue or Capital Boulevard; both are pretty ghetto and most hotels are old.

I recommend Candlewood Suites over by Crabtree Valley Mall (Lead Mine Road). I just stayed there back in August for a few days as I was in Raleigh for a mini-vaca. The hotel is very clean and the staff is super nice; they also have a free business center with computers and printing ability all for free. There is also free wireless throughout the whole building which is very convenient as well. I don't know if these will matter for your parents but they are still nice perks to have. Also, the hotel over by RBC (behind Backyard Bistro) is Comfort Suites. I have stayed there as well; very nice rooms and again it was clean and maintained really well. My only issue with this place was that it was a lil out of the way from everything; but even that is preferred by some people.

Thanks for the suggestions! They will be taking me from my apartment to the hospital, so the location of the hotel is kinda irrelevant I guess. Getting the surgery done at Blue Ridge Surgery Center.
