So I'm living in Roanoke now where there's nothing going on sports-wise during the fall and winter, except Virginia Tech hockey at the Roanoke Civic Center, former home of the Roanoke Express of the ECHL (wish they were still here).Needless to say, I'll be following my #2 team VT (my gf is an alum and fan, too), as well as the Pack, and college hockey for that matter, this year. So, what should I expect from college hockey at this level? I know it's club level, but how does the skill level compare to other leagues? Is it better than what I assume when I think "club sport"?Anyway, enough about me, here's the NC State schedule:http://www.ncsuhockey.org/schedule.htmlGame 1 was won by the Pack against App State, 12-1. Next up is home vs. Liberty. Go Pack.

It's probably better than you're expecting as a "club sport." Generally speaking, a D2 ACHA club team will have a couple of guys who could probably crack a D3 NCAA roster. The big thing with club teams is goaltending, especially around here. Because there's no recruitment and you're dealing with people who are paying to play essentially for fun, it can be hard for a team to find two (or sometimes even one) goaltender who matches the skill level of the league.

Why did NCSU have to schedule their game at VT for Halloween weekend? [Edited on October 17, 2009 at 5:27 PM. Reason : .]

Most recent NC State hockey thread I could find, so....Anyone else go to the NC State-UNC Frozen Finley game? State won 7-3 in front of an estimated 24-26,000 fans. Awesome atmosphere, fun time. Bigger attendance than any NHL game last night

Again, most recent hockey thread I could find, but... our hockey team's about to become D1https://247sports.com/college/north-carolina-state/article/nc-state-duke-baseball-acc-tournament-how-to-watch-viewing-info-live-stream-2024-232080961/

D1 club hockey. Still not a scholarship sport

Well that's disappointing, the PP(!!) article really made it seem like it was regular D1. Shucks. Step in the right direction I guess if nothing else

If they were adding a varsity men's sport, you would have also heard of either eliminating a different men's sport or also adding a varsity women's sport in order to maintain title ix compliance. I seriously doubt any college will be adding varsity sports for awhile until the dust settles from this latest news about paying players.
