got a letter from the insurance company asking whether I drive the 240 to school/work and if so, what is the driving distance? Is this an instance where people just blatantly lie? Honestly I regularly switch between the 240 and my '00 nissan frontier 4x2 for driving to work. Think I could come out cheaper claiming one or the other as my only daily driver? (old sporty coupe vs newer small truck) Do they even give a rat's ass in the end? j/w

say you only drive it for pleasure and drive it "maybe" 2500miles a year. make up some shit about public transit or carpooling to work

tell them you got laid off and only drive the cheap one on interviews / job hunting

All my vehicles are primarily for pleasure.I commute on the bicycle.

^yeah I'd assume that they would check the mileage (or request it from you) every year or so.Ultimately, if something really bad went down the insurance company potentially could catch on and deny your claim. Really just a judgement call on your part

i'm not quite sure how they could catch me, though...they have NEVER asked me what my odometer said (not since i bought the car)nm, i guess that if the car were totaled, they'd request the title, which would have the mileage at which i purchased it...i guess they could do the math although, since they've never asked me if my mileage has changed, i guess i could feign ignorance, not that that would get me out of anything

Too many ways you can get burned doing that. There are things you skimp on...Insurance isn't one of them.

Right now I have my S2000 listed as my primary transportation, and they know that I have a 14 mile drive to work. I have my Integra listed as "weekend car" only b/c they didn't have a category for "seldom used beater" I said the Integra would be driven 3000 miles a year or less, and the S2000 is unlimited. So I'm being truthful with them. When I lived in NYC I kept the Integra insured in NC. I had two separate incidences of vandalism against the car and filed claims. My insurance company didn't seem suspicious. Go figure!

I was referring to Quagmire. When I had the S2k I listed it as a pleasure vehicle with ~7500 miles per year on it. I may have gone a little over that number, but not enough to matter. I was splitting the driving between that car and the e30 though. The S2k got more seat time in the summer, but for November through March it was in the garage under a cover 99% of the time.

^oh yeah I know. I just replied too slowly. I drive the GSR to work when I want to go mtn biking afterwards or when its icy/snowy outside. But the rest of the time it's the S2000. I bought the car in December and have already put 14,000 miles on it this year

Damn dude! My lex only has 9,100 miles and I bought it a couple weeks after yours

i have my SV650 with liability only listed as my primary transportation, which is true. About the only times I drive a car are when the weather is bad or when I have my daughter (so that's still a significant amount of car driving, but I'd wager that I do ride the bike more than anything else). The S2000 has comp & collision, but it's listed as a pleasure vehicle with only a few thousand miles per year.i don't remember what the truck is listed as, but it's only a couple thousand miles per year. i think it's actually listed as a pleasure vehicle, too.
