I'm making t-shirts for my school, and need to turn a scanned student drawing into a vector image for the printers. What's the easiest way of going about this? I have the CS4 master suite, but beyond just tracing over the .jpeg in Fireworks or Illustrator, I'm not sure how to do this.

Switch the words around in your subject, there are websites that will do it for free (although it won't always be as pretty as hand-tracing it yourself) and they are easy to find:http://tinyurl.com/klhlwx[Edited on September 15, 2009 at 7:02 PM. Reason : grammar]

haha. oops. But seriously, Illustrator won't do it automatically or something? If I had paid for this, I'd be pissed that my $2500 piece of software couldn't do this.[Edited on September 15, 2009 at 7:04 PM. Reason : ]

^Illustrator does not cost $2500 neither does the suite.also spending $100's - $1000's in art supplies, photography equipment doesn't mean it does everything for you.[Edited on September 15, 2009 at 7:12 PM. Reason : .]

Erm:
9/15/2009 7:22:38 PM
^thats master collection...includes every adobe product more or less. (anyway that doesn't matter)
9/15/2009 7:26:37 PM
Adobe does have a solution to this. Illustrator can do it. But since you've already outlined that you're using the product illegally, and have already found another cheaper product that can do it (Vector Magic), it's a /thread.If you want FREE, hand trace the thing yourself. If you want EASY, pay for a solution that works for you and that you can afford.Next time, don't tell us you're using illegal software that you have no idea how to even use.
9/15/2009 7:33:45 PM
it's a school license
9/15/2009 8:05:55 PM
Oh look, noen fucked up again about software. You ever going to learn to just get off your fucking high horse?Everyone in here knows that you were into some highly illegal shit back in the day. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if you still are.
9/15/2009 9:24:58 PM
^not the point. You tards still don't get the difference between "don't flaunt it on a public forum" and "don't do it because it's wrong". Illustrator can do it with Live Trace. One of the most basic features of the product. Also, I'm calling bullshit on the "school license".

CANYOUEVENREAD?
9/15/2009 10:15:09 PM
Yes, I can. Can you? All I care about is the former, I could give a shit about the latter.
9/15/2009 10:20:21 PM
Who cares what you call. You're a bitchmade faggot that fucks threads up with your pompous hypocrisy. Go felate the business end of an exhaust manifold of a car that gets you the same amount of pussy as before you bought the car for that specific purpose.
9/15/2009 10:45:00 PM
wow

9/15/2009 11:24:00 PM
You deserve it you faggot ass prick for calling yet another person in this question a liar when you yourself did as much illegal shit as anyone else here. You probably still do.
9/15/2009 11:51:30 PM
Fail Boat, I'm gonna call your ass out now. I want to see you face to face, perhaps at say, Mitch's?Also, when you vectorize a raster image, you can produce a ridiculous number of strokes unless you clean it up a bit first. So you might want to keep that in mind. If you reduce or smooth colors and gradients before vectorization, you should have better results.A free program, inkscape, can also do this.

illustrator CS4 can create outlines and turn it into a vector. I had to this last week.Unfortunately text usually ends up looking like shit using it, better off retyping the text.
9/16/2009 12:16:37 AM
hahahaha...looks like i hurt that fat fucks feelings.
9/16/2009 12:30:31 AM
So you're going to scold me for wasting everyone's time and I should be suspended and terminated and flogged for it, I take the shit talking out of the thread, and what do you do but
9/16/2009 12:42:51 AM
I must say this thread was way more entertaining than I thought it would be. <golfclap>

9/16/2009 9:52:29 AM
^sometimes that causes more problems than it solves.
9/16/2009 6:13:52 PM
^well the guy couldn't even find Live Paint in Illo, so I'm not going to bother explaining the details of converting raster to vector and how its an insanely manual process to do right, no matter what the tool is.
9/16/2009 9:16:19 PM
are we done here?
9/17/2009 12:24:03 AM
ArcGIS could do it
9/21/2009 10:55:17 PM
windows media player could do it
9/22/2009 2:43:45 AM
9/22/2009 10:43:36 AM
^ It has that capability after a fashion. It's not something you would use for graphics work. It's mainly used for converting geospatial data to a different data type.
