in the middle of the road. Thing's been missing since late Thursday night. Roommate's currently out of town, he gets back later tonight. I don't know what to tell him, if anything. I'm pretty sure it's his cat. Hair length is similar, and color is spot-on (Though it's been run over, tail completely skinned, etc. Pretty gruesome.)

I have basically 3 options:

1. Tell him when he gets back.
2. Never tell him / tell him later and hope he doesn't see it when he drives back.
3. Text him about it when I'm at work, then turn off my cell phone.

I seriously don't know how he'll react, though I think he's more afraid of his girlfriend finding out.

;_;

I do admit that its hair looked slightly shorter than what I was used to seeing, but this was in the middle of the road. And some rednecks were yelling at me to get out of the way so I didn't get a good look.

Anyways, it's an indoor cat so it's probably starved to death by now/beaten up by street thug cats if it wasn't run over. I feel bad for my roommate; he must be worried sick.

tell him, its just a cat. go shovel it off the road and tell him where it is just in case he wants to go look to verify

i would just tell him. wouldn't you want to know if your missing pet might be dead and someone knew about it? tell him you saw a cat that looked like his in the road but you can't be totally sure. leave the rest up to him.

never telling him or texting him and turning your phone off are punk outs

yeah, just tell him. something like "hey man, i think mr. whiskers got ran over. i went ahead and cleaned it up." it shouldn't be that big of deal.

I know your moral compass is probably telling you to tell him, but honestly the best bet is just to let the dude and his girl think that "maybe" someone rescued it. Them knowing it is dead and how it died is about as crappy as it can get for a pet owner.

I agree, don't tell him. I had a cat run away once, and I still hope someone rescued it, that it didn't get run over. that would be worse.

Not telling him leaves it forever an open issue. Tell him (although I'd make it clear that you aren't sure this is his cat), let him grieve, and move on. Better that than letting it continue to fester.

And, as others said, don't be a punk about it - this is not going to be an easy job.

Find a similar looking cat at an animal shelter and spray paint the tail to make it match.

get the cat off the road, put it somewhere out of the way where it wont get run over again, tell the guy and let him decide what to do with it.

damn son, its a cat.

i was pissed when my pets died when i was like 5, but i mean they aren't gonna last forever. Its fucked up that it happened while he wasn't there lol. But still just tell him you lost the cat and don't know what happened to it. He'll get over it.

I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message

you have to tell him, don't hide it from him. That's not right.

Personally, if it were my cat I'd want to know so I could stop worrying about the cat and know what happened to it.

But this also assumes that the cat wasn't accidentally let out of the house by you and you were hoping to get the cat back alive before the roommate returned

^^Since I doubt there are two people putting up lost parrot signs, its probably the same one I'm thinking of, and that parrot has been lost for many months. I seem to remember the rewards were pretty nice if someone finds that parrot. (I work[ed] at a vet clinic in Carrboro, so I've seen many a lost pet poster)

^I'd also fall in the I'd want to know so I could stop worrying category.
