I do generic websites on the side, but I was referred to a client that is asking for fancy flash graphics. Here is their current website: http://www.telecycle.comHere is what they want it to look like: http://www.wsfint.comFancy flash animations are out of my current scope of abilities... So I need to recommend them to another developer who doesn't do it on the side and has the right tools and techniques. I can only do simple static stuff with plain jane photoshop and dreamweaver. They're looking for under $1000 for the entire project.

go to a flash template site, buy the template out of the box where its customizable (most are) for wording and such ... and then just adapt it to their needs. I assume they are fine with just the Header portion of the site being done in flash, and then the body being all html?1k wont hardly get you a custom flash site worth owning ... so go the easy route [Edited on September 11, 2009 at 10:01 AM. ^^ Good idea... Didn't think about that.^ Yeah, I keep trying to tell them that for the services that they are trying to offer, that they should just keep it simple. But, I don't know why their CEO wants a fancy flash site.Hmmm... What do you guys think about this template I found: http://www.flashmint.com/show-template-2328.htmlWorth it for $60? Basically move their logo/header over to this site and add content right?[Edited on September 11, 2009 at 10:12 AM. Reason : meh]

And this is why I do support rather than programming or design. User requirements can kiss my ass. That being said, I'm sure the client would love that template for $60. Quote them $940 dollars in services.

let me know how these templates work out. never tried buying one and trying to customize it seems like it would be a pain.
9/11/2009 10:36:34 AM
Yeah, one of their requirements is that it has to have some sort animated globe/earth, since they're a "global company"...To be honest, my intentions were to pawn them off on someone else Hence why I asked to see if you guys knew anyone reputable I could pawn them off on. I just didn't want to send them somewhere that would screw them over then they'd come back to me and give me a mouth full.
9/11/2009 10:39:49 AM
^honestly if it comes back to you just tell them thats the best they can expect to get for a $1000 budget and finding a good designer willing to do silly things like 'animated globe/logo'
9/11/2009 10:46:29 AM
I'd be more than happy for you to pawn them off to me.so that I can quote them 900 dollars, go buy a template, throw in their info, and call it a day.
9/11/2009 10:55:09 AM
exactly ... profit off their stupidity and give them a *nice* template as their website.
9/11/2009 11:49:35 AM
god I hate flash intros. just let me see the damn site.
9/11/2009 12:06:06 PM
i'll do their whole site - have them contact me

$1000 really isn't that low of a price requirement. there are plenty of people out there who do great work who happen to be low on work and or don't think they're the next coming of christ that will do it for that price.
