Ok, recently engaged... Fiance and I want to get married at Emerald Isle.We are struggling with a wedding date. I am a LTR Season Ticket holder for football games, so we really don't want to miss a big home game (UNC, maybe one-two other teams). We also want to have it at the beach once the prices drop on the houses (after Labor Day?). And is there anytime during the fall that hurricane season is not as BIG of a threat? If any of you have experience with something like this, please let me know. Thanks

My buddy has a house at Emerald Isle. Sleeps 8 comfortably, but we have had 12 there before. So let me know if you need to put some people up and I will find out how much he would rent it for.

thanks a lot. she's got some family member that built two houses down there side-by-side to rent out and we are hoping to get those for the wedding parties. only problem is those houses are huge (sleep 16 or so) so we are looking to wait until after Labor Day because of cost issues...... which runs into the football schedule.http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/future_schedules/northcarolinastate_future.htm has us playing Cinci 9/4 and @ UCF 9/11. 9/11 is out of the question and we (WE, not just ME) don't want to miss the home opener. You guys think we will schedule a cupcake on 9/18?[Edited on September 8, 2009 at 11:58 AM. Reason : q]

i believe the official football schedule was released in February this year. My fiance and I waited so we could schedule our wedding during the bye week.
9/8/2009 1:03:05 PM
Does it have to be in the Fall? Why not late Spring?
9/8/2009 1:04:28 PM
what schedule crap is that? look at a real one. and 9/11 home opener? WAT?
9/8/2009 1:05:30 PM
^ yea, i'd be very surprised if the home opener isn't one of the last few days in August, or the first weekend in September.
9/8/2009 1:07:24 PM
Sept. 4th vs Cincy is the first weekend of September next year so I am thinking that will be our home opener. She wants it sooner than later cause of old-bad shape-grandparents. We really want them there.BUT, I am currently without a full-time job. All we have is a part-time job for me and she is a full-time nanny. We got engaged under the circumstance we would wait for a wedding when we were financially ready. But the whole grandparents thing makes it tough on her. Mine aren't doin very good either, but a little better than hers.We could maybe shoot for late spring of 2010, BUT... What if I am not on my feet financially by say the first of the year?I have a college degree from State (although it is Parks and Rec Management) so I am hoping sometime these hardtimes will end and something will open up for me. But we are really scared to go forward with wedding plans until I have a stable job.[Edited on September 8, 2009 at 1:15 PM. Reason : .]

oh nm I suck at reading You guys could do it in spring of 2010 as long as you're not wanting to do a lavish wedding. PM me. I'm planning a beach wedding on a budget of 5k or less [Edited on September 8, 2009 at 6:40 PM. Reason : .]

I had a spring wedding on the beach. It worked out pretty well

Ok, we are now thinking Sept. 11th. We are getting some mixed reviews about it. At first, I wasn't crazy about it but the more people we talk to kind of say it's actually a good idea. One of those "life moves on" type ordeals as long as we have a moment of silence.Thoughts?
9/8/2009 9:47:13 PM
If people are still thinking Sept. 11th is a taboo day to do anything, especially if they weren't directly affected that day, they need to get on with their lives. That said, isn't September the peak of hurricane season?
9/8/2009 10:16:44 PM
Well I believe we are now leaning towards Sept. 11th at Emerald Isle..........And finding some sort of Rec. Building/Clubhouse for the reception/rain back-up.
9/8/2009 10:26:44 PM
If there's a hurricane you'll need a lot more than a rain backup. If you're seriously considering Emerald Isle, I'd look into doing it in the spring. I remember when my grandmother decided to do a family reunion in Corolla in September because she found a great deal on a house, and of course a hurricane came and they evacuated the entire NC coast the 2nd day we were there
9/8/2009 10:31:52 PM
True. But you really can't be scared of a hurricane and plan around one either I guess. Just do lots of praying or something. And the problem with the spring is back to the job issue. The sooner we do it the less likely I am to have landed another job. And also, I coach high school baseball so we don't really want to do it in the middle of our season. September is what she really wants because it isn't as hot down there.

HOW CAN YOU THINK ABOUT ANNIVERSARY PRESENTS ON A DAY LIKE TODAY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?...i like it.
9/8/2009 10:40:15 PM
Lol at planning a wedding around a football schedule. I see where this marriage is headed. Also 9/10 is the absolute peak of hurricane season but things look great for 9/11 as Fred won't be headed our way and theres nothing else out there besides the blob right off the coast which will be long gone.
9/8/2009 10:47:14 PM
^ I was thinking the same thing

sorry... some of us are actually diehard nc state football fans believe it or not. she's cool with it, and thats one of the reasons why she's so perfect for me. so, sorry you folks think it's funny. i honestly can't believe i am even considering a september wedding as many times as i have talked shit about state football fans who get married during the season. Oh well...yeah hurricane season worries me, BUT... if we are looking to get married in the fall, then there's not much you can do about a hurricane a year ahead of time.[Edited on September 9, 2009 at 12:10 AM. this thread is chock full o' fail. if you're having a wedding ceremony for anyone other than yourselves...well...good luck with that.
9/9/2009 9:41:21 AM
If people were having weddings just for themselves they'd all get married in the courthouse
9/9/2009 9:53:04 AM
^^disagree. there is nothing wrong with considering your guests in planning your wedding. true, you can't please anyone and ultimately its the couples wishes that should prevail...but considering your guests is definitely wise.

We are also considering a late May wedding down at Emerald Isle. Reduces chance of hurricane, still hasn't got real hot, etc... BUT, it is a few months earlier and as you can tell, we really have no plans yet.
9/9/2009 12:26:12 PM
so yeah... emerald isle, labor day weekend is what it's looking like unless we end up in new bern on the water somewhere.
9/15/2009 3:58:32 PM
A few words of warning regarding beach weddings, especially at a busy time like Labor Day weekend. I was recently a guest at a wedding on the beach in southern California. I say beach as in the beach directly behind the waterfront hotel where the reception was held. First, let me say that, all things considered, everyone was very happy with everything about the wedding. However, if you or your significant other are the type of person who is prone to go bridezilla when sunbathing grandmas, drunk hippies, crying 2nd graders and dogs catching frisbees are literally 10 yards to the left and right of your ceremony, or when clueless walkers waltz between you and the water, choose your location very carefully. Also, have a wedding planner who understands your wishes and is a Nazi for details.

True, adding an extra 50 yards to the path of an innocent who intrepidly set out to nay but walk on wet sand is a horrifying hindrance. How inconsiderate of the bride, groom, indeed all of us in attendance.
9/15/2009 5:42:24 PM
Also, expect to receive a lot more invite declines if you have it on Labor Day weekend. A lot of people will have prior plans they'd rather do or can't break. Might make you feel crappy/mad/whatever but that's the nature of having a wedding on a three day weekend.
