9/6/2009 10:31:45 AM
i think i read only 1 win against a D1 school or something like that
9/6/2009 10:33:44 AM
Terrible start, just like every year.
9/6/2009 10:36:50 AM
the only thing that would make it better is if Miami and FSU could end in a tie
9/6/2009 10:42:33 AM
the acc is terrible, make no mistake.
9/6/2009 10:43:45 AM
The Duke, Virginia and maybe even the Wake losses are absolutely ridiculous and inexcusable.
9/6/2009 10:48:09 AM
i called baylor beating wake. they are a program on the rise. the spread yesterday was only +3. i hopped all over baylorbut you are right about the other two
9/6/2009 10:57:21 AM
on the bright side, we should be very competitive within the league.
9/6/2009 10:59:43 AM
i hope you're right.
9/6/2009 11:02:59 AM
I feel a little better knowing that the entire ACC is awful, and it's not just us.
9/6/2009 11:52:28 AM
VT played one hell of a game, I still expect them and FSU to have great seasons. So we don't ALL suck.
9/6/2009 12:35:26 PM
Really sad. Virginia Tech is the only decent team in the conference. FSU has a chance. Richmond was the 1-AA champs but Duke was supposed to be improved. An ACC loss to William and Mary dammit how far has Virginia fallen? Al Groh is for sure gone after this year and sadly we don't play them.
9/6/2009 12:55:14 PM
shit is badmake no mistake
9/6/2009 1:13:07 PM
^^ Screw that, I'd rather play a team that isn't dog shit.
9/6/2009 2:12:42 PM
9/6/2009 2:20:53 PM
Wow, they really lost to William and Mary??
9/6/2009 2:31:10 PM
9/6/2009 3:21:20 PM
silver lining is our loss was one of the more respectable ones, so we have a chance at winning the conference!
9/6/2009 3:24:09 PM
^^ they beat Maryland last year
9/6/2009 3:24:43 PM
^doesn't give any more credibility to beating a perennial sub .500 sun belt team
9/6/2009 3:38:33 PM
9/6/2009 4:17:22 PM
9/6/2009 4:20:42 PM
^^One could argue that the state of Duke's football program for the past decade has been "ridiculous and inexcusable"
9/6/2009 5:58:23 PM
^ can you believe they were actually ranked #2 some years back
9/6/2009 6:14:53 PM
so Tailsock a fucking shitty ECU fan talking shit about the ACC again, the Pirates had to hold on to beat App State and their 3rd string QB. The ACC starts slowly again. UVA and Duke are both going to be shitty this year everybody knows this. Maryland got beaten bad no doubt but they won at home versus Cal last year and it provided extra motivation for Cal this season. I still think save Duke and UVA anybody else in the ACC could win Conference USA.A lot of people on this site are extremely pessimistic after one week. I still maintain that the ACC is better than the Big 10 and Big East in the BCS conferences.
9/6/2009 6:15:21 PM
^^ wat? You must be referring to the ranking of their graduation rates.[Edited on September 6, 2009 at 6:35 PM. Reason : Or your definitition of "some years ago" is 50+ years]Here, you got me intrigued...
9/6/2009 6:33:28 PM
Is there anything to actually watch?
9/6/2009 6:35:14 PM
^^ i don't know how high spurrier got them, but he had them ranked in the top 10 at one point in one season, not necessarily in the final poll.
9/6/2009 7:25:09 PM
the acc is better than the big 10 ... wtf ?are you high ?I was with you on conf USA, but hell even fucking Northwestern would have truck fucked us if we played them the way we played south carolina.[Edited on September 6, 2009 at 8:36 PM. Reason : ruck]
9/6/2009 8:36:32 PM
Seems like you only need a slightly above average, consistent team to run the table in the ACC conference. Too bad we can't even manage that.
9/6/2009 8:42:32 PM
^^who knows, their flagship football school ohio state was a 2-point conversion away from overtime
9/6/2009 9:02:37 PM
Big Ten ... 10-1 ACC : joke1 BCS win in the last 9 years ... over lackluster Cincinnati. Color me unimpressed with the ACC
9/6/2009 9:19:54 PM
original thoughts ITT
9/6/2009 9:26:04 PM
^^I'm not impressed with the ACC, nor am I impressed with the Big Tenmaybe its because they've been completely embarrassed in the national championship game the last couple years, proving they didn't deserve to play in it in the first place]

I think the UVA loss was clearly the worstMaybe we're not as good as the Big Ten this year, it remains to be seenbut I just see some of the ACC's losses being by respectable margins to pretty good teams (USC, Bama) whereas two of their 3 ranked teams struggled to beat Navy and Northern Iowaplus I'm sure Miami and FSU will be better than average teams[Edited on September 6, 2009 at 10:00 PM. Reason : .]
9/6/2009 9:55:45 PM
yea i agree with some guys abovei cant say VT is a bad team at all
9/6/2009 9:57:31 PM
VT performed pretty well...those muffed punt returns were the only surprising parts. Figured Tyrod would struggle especially against the Bama defense.
9/6/2009 10:00:23 PM
I think Georgia Tech can compete against anyone in the nation...similar to a team like Navy. That style of offense is just hard to play defense against, no matter how good/fast/athletic you may be. It's something different that you aren't used to seeing.I think Virginia Tech can continue to compete against anyone. I've always thought they get overrated at the beginning of every season, but somehow, they always seem to come out with a pretty good year.I think both Florida State and Miami will be competitive teams. It will be hard to tell how good they could be out of conference tomorrow night, but I think both of those programs have the athletes to compete.I also think both Carolina and ourselves can also be competitive. Clemson and Boston College are still big question marks to me. I don't expect Boston College to be good, but who knows. And I really have no idea what to expect from Clemson, they have some solid guys back, but that hasn't been their problem the last few years. So all in all I still think the ACC has 5 or 6 really quality programs. I'm not sure if any of them are top 10 programs, but I think all of those could be in the top 25 (4 already are) or compete with other top 25 teams. And I just want to say, I'm glad we don't have to play GT in the regular season...[Edited on September 6, 2009 at 10:29 PM. I'm not making a judgement on FSU until I see how their offense has progressed tomorrow night. If they get decent QB play this year, they could be a really solid team.
9/6/2009 11:01:44 PM
mark my words, fsu will not be any better than the rest of the acc this year.
9/6/2009 11:48:17 PM
words marked
9/6/2009 11:52:59 PM
Didn't the ACC "suck" last year when we got a record 10 teams into bowl games?
9/7/2009 12:02:49 AM
.500 records against other acc teams don't mean anything dawg.
9/7/2009 12:04:51 AM
and we went 4-6 ... woo !
9/7/2009 12:22:06 AM
^^ And yet it was still a record. You would think some other sucky conference would have posted the same record sometime in history. The ACC was a bunch of decent teams and 2 absolute crap teams, other conferences were 1-3 good teams, a couple decent teams, and a bunch of absolute crap teams.
9/7/2009 12:29:33 AM
a conference full of mediocre teams is not impressive.at least not to me.
9/7/2009 10:24:08 AM
And one or two great teams at the top of an otherwise crap conference doesn't convince me that a conference is good. The team is good, sure.
9/7/2009 11:06:23 AM
I love the panicking in this thread, its week 1, lots of bad losses our two bottom feeders both posted embarassing losses. The season is far from over. It will be a long week but people will forget about this week after next weekend. The Big Ten has Penn State and Ohio State that may be good, at least the sports media will hype those 2 all season. If the Luckeyes beat USC this week they will be gift wrapped another national title game appearance. The Big 12 has Texas, Oklahoma(maybe) that can be good. Oklahoma State will be this season's Texas Tech. The Pac-10 is all USC.The Big East who the hell knows, that conference is worse than ours, but since they are up north they don't get the constant comparisons to the SEC like the ACC does.
