I hate to make a thread about this.I did search under the following criteria(s):"Exhaust""Custom""Custom Exhaust""Exhaust Shop"I went through 2 pages of threads without finding what I was looking for. I even tried asking this in the Official [OLD] Thread... I want to get some custom long tube, mandrel bent, stainless steel headers made. I believe R&J custom exhaust was mentioned, however, customer satisfaction was questionable. What other shops out there would you recommend?

Ahh, I thought I remembered something about the RJ and R&J mixup. I'll call RJ today. Any other shop to use in comparison to RJ?

you realize how much a set of hand made headers will cost, and in stainless too -
8/24/2009 11:01:57 AM
Yes. I'm guessing at least $1000 for just mandrel bent steel. But then for stainless, it'll probably run me upwards of what, $1,700? I'd like to get it done right the first time with material that'll last. None of that ceramic shit that'll just crack and flake off after a year or so

for $1700 you could buy an ls1

Or a yearly lifetime subscription to your mother... Stay on topic or GTFO.[Edited on August 24, 2009 at 11:21 AM. Reason : .]

Ron is the only person I know in town with a mandrel bender.

why cant you just fix what you have?

I'm not even going to begin explaining how shitty those sanderson headers are. They've been "saved" and patched up twice. Not worth any more effort or time. Trust me. Well, you don't have to, because I ain't putting up with that crap anymore [Edited on August 24, 2009 at 10:59 PM. Reason : .]

Actually I found a set of pacesetter headers that will work. The walls are thicker than the Sanderson so future cracking shouldn't be a problem. Plus the Pacesetters have larger primaries which will be ideal for if/when I decide to make the engine a 383. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PSM-70-1340/Now I've also found a solution for the frame rail clearance issue on the passenger side. It appears that the passenger side engine mount is about 1/2" shorter than the driver side. WTF! Plus, the isolators are about 1" thick (too thick from what I've been told by other people), and that's going to cause all kinds of misalignment issues down the road once those deteriorate. So, I'm going to go with some custom made solid motor mounts that are $145 shipped. They've been test fitted on 10 other 944's with LTx conversions, so I know they'll work. Then I just have to get the headers welded onto the existing pipes, which shouldn't be but a Benji or two at most.[Edited on October 15, 2009 at 10:19 AM. Reason : .]
