it has a terrible resale value with respect to it's original cost
it's a chrysler
if you've ever driven the car you know it's next to impossible to see out of
tires would be expensive because of the ridiculous rim/tire combo they have on that car

that being said, it's a decent "deal" on a car in that market segment, but only because the car sucked and has lost so much value compared to new

i guess go for it if you are "ballin on a budget"

btw, just so we're clear it is NOT based on the above SLK. It is based on the first gen SLK.

explain how that matters when he's buying used? Yeah, it's a Chrysler but it has a Mercedes drivetrain, suspension, and platform.

since he's buying used, those cars are probably past the steepest part of their depreciation curve by now

If you're dead set on getting a Crossfire, go for it. You seem to like it and folks should buy what they like. Don't expect to sell it for the same amount in 2 years though, that's just ridiculous.

have you ever driven one? they're slow as balls. it's got "I'M A MIDDLE AGED CARY WIFE THAT THINKS THIS CAR IS COOL" written all over it.

and i'd be surprised if you get 11K out of it in a few years. and even if you do, fuck it, find something that doesn't suck to put your money into for a few years.

You could get an S2000 in that price range (A bit higher for a more reasonable AP1).

Or you could get a Miata for like, half that and seriously sell it for what you bought it for AND not have to invest much money in it for maintenance. It's a much better car and manages to extract similar performance to the crossfire with a whole lot less. Plus, if you're going to have a two seat car, it shouldn't be big and heavy IMO.

I'd say the S2000 is ideal, but the Miata is more economical in every way if you can handle having less power at high rpm. The Crossfire is a waste of your time.

I'm also going to ask if you've driven it yet. My dad had his heart set on one here in Raleigh, although he lives in Winston-Salem. There weren't any near him for him to drive, so I drove this one for him. Ugh.... talk about cheap looking interior and just a cheap feeling overall. I called him right away and told him to just scratch it from his list.

there's also a C5 for sale right now on corvetteforums for $11.8K.

but you go ahead and get your little crossfire

I honestly can't imagine wanting a Crossfire more than any LSx powered vehicle in reasonable condition.

I'd seriously even take a late model F-body over that thing in a heartbeat.

i think most of yall sheep are regurgitating what you heard in some fancy car review
yes this is not a mercedes or BMW, and its not priced like one
its is stylish & powerful far beyond what the price tag deserves
and please dont try to compare it to a miata or an s2000, if you didnt know im a man and wish to remain one

you're driving a crossfire and talking about being a man?

seriously?

and nobody "compared" them except to say that both of those cars are fucking leagues ahead of a crossfire in terms of being a "sports car". i'm not regurgitating some bullshit i read in a magazine.. i've driven all of them

It doesn't fit my definition of a sports car either, but honestly what's so wrong about owning a Crossfire? I think they're one of the best cars w/the Chrysler badge out there, and if that means affordable entry price, why not? They also don't look anywhere near as bland as the Benz counterpart.

Well sorry but that's not a very logical question. I've owned many "2 seater" cars, and it works fine for me,
but that means nothing about how it may work out for you... Do you have a need for more than 2 seats or
more cargo space? If not, obviously it won't be a problem, and if so, well obviously it will be a problem.

You'd think so, but nah. It's not past it's depreciation curve until it hits the $5k mark and people are trying to decide whether they want that or a used Corolla.

When asking about 2 seater sports cars and then saying this its pretty clear you don't know shit about cars.

So move along and have fun looking for a "sports car". I'm guessing next you'll be interested in an Accord or Altima coupe.

Comparing the Crossfire to the first-gen SLK is not really a big compliment for the car. During the years Benz owned Daimler, Benz quality was shit. I've driven several of these including a SRT 6 and while they can be fun, you have serious blindspots, a very harsh ride, numerous creaks/groans/rattles, and poor acceleration if you go with a base one. Plan on spending money on the car as it is out of the basic limited warranty.

Speaking of 2 seat sports car, would it be possible to find a good enough deal on a C6 Z06, drive it for maybe 1-2 years at a TCO of maybe 5-7 grand and then sell it? It wouldn't be a daily driver, I'd put maybe 3-5000 miles on it a year.

I have no idea if those numbers make sense, but I think I could set aside that kind of money for a couple years (maybe even 1 year) of owning a car like that.

^^not a sports car.

^You should be able to find one for around $25k. But I don't know anything about their depreciation rate. Given that a base C6 model outperforms it I'm not sure how strong it will be.

^ wut? He mentioned C6 Z06.. not C5 Z06, which I assume you misread, because then yes, a C6 >C5 Z06.

I've seen 2005/2006 Z06 on sale for $55k-57k. That's about $20k depreciation in 3 years time
