I need someone to take out an automatic transmission in a 1999 dodge neon and install a manual (got a good deal from a friend).

something tells me its gonna cost a lot more in the long run than a rebuilt auto even if you did get a good deal

you'll have to source a pedal assembly at least, there might be multiple wiring changes needed as well. not straightforward I bet. a lot of times they have different ECU's for auto and manual cars and since it's OBD II it might throw codes

I did this conversion in a 98 Subaru, which is one of the easiest cars that I've worked on, and it was still pretty involved

in the end, it was down to me and the internet

I needed the pedal assembly
ECU from a manual
the ABS module and controller from a manual
several relays and contacts, including the clutch safety switch circuit and one more I can't recall
the rear differential for the manual (you won't need that since it's just a neon, more than likely)
clutch master cylinder
may as well get a new clutch plate, pressure plate, flywheel and throwout bearing while you're at it.
get the needed fluids also, clutch and transmission oils

still had to jumper out a few ports on the automatic part of the harness, that's where I asked the internet

the pedal assembly was among the hardest part of the install, for me at least

but this was just a subaru..



I would, at the very least, do a search on a neon forum and talk to some people that have done this swap before, to get a complete parts list

$700 is a great price for all the extra work this would take.

You might be better off just pulling an auto out of the junkyard and taking your chances with it.

Or,(and don't take this the wrong way), just junking the car.

This just isn't worth the time, effort or money IMO. So many better things to do, but if you want to waste money on this then by all means, do so.

Just remember that you'll never get a single penny of it back. It really seems like you're just throwing away perfectly good money to me.
