Has anyone taken this? How hard is it?

I guess it would depend on how well you know your Bio, I don't know much for the exam, but the class was extremely easy.

I took it last year, and when I went to go check for people who passed out of the courses, a lovely little "Nobody passed the placement exam" sign was sitting on the door. It was bullshit- there were at least thirty people who took it with me, and you cannot tell me that not even one of them knew their biology as well as someone who took the two classes and waited a summer.

Honestly, I'm pretty happy I didn't test out, though- the series (181/183) contributed 8 A+/A hours to my degree. :p

departments at NCSU tend to take it personally when you try and place out of their classes, it seems.

prime example: the fact that you have to get a 5 on the AP lang&comp exam to get placed out of ENG101.
