So I was signed up with Kurtz for MA 242 and I guess she just bounced because the class is closed leaving me with either MA 242 with "Staff" as the instructor or MA 242 with Norris through distance ed. Not too sure what to expect out of an online Calc class...SO which would you recommend, MA 242 ED or MA 242 with some "Staff".BTW, I'm new here so I'm supposing staff is just a TA, right? Thanks[Edited on August 8, 2009 at 12:24 AM. well, one you can re-watch the lectures, the other you can go to office hours--so it's probably a wash

staff sometimes means the teacher is undecided, so you probably wont find out till the first day of class. distance ed has a drawback in that you'll be paying extra tuition money for it, but hey if you don't feel like going to class, it works for ya.

All great points. Thanks. Just gonna jump on the wait list for some other MA 242s and choose DE as a last resort.

Norris's class is going to have a lot of maple assignments, so if you don't like maple, don't take that section.

hell, I had a grad student teach me for MA 141 and MA 241 and they were far better than the professor I had for MA 242Actually I would say almost every time I had a grad student they were better except for my econ courses

Somewhat risky going with staff. It means either a grad student or a random professor to fill in to teach the course if they can't cancel the section. Sometimes works out, sometimes doesn't.If this is your first course DE, and you'll need the learning in this course longer-term, don't take it DE. Find another section and waitlist it.[Edited on August 12, 2009 at 9:45 PM. Reason : .]
