I have a 97 Honda Accord, 4 cyl, ~ 192k miles. So I'm on my way home from work and come to a stop. Then the check engine light comes on. From that point on as I accelerate its jerky with a rough engagement; when I release the gas its more noticeable (not really jerky but not smooth) and when I press the gas I can feel it "kick" in but a little delayed. When I accelerate from my last stop it is noticeably jerky (like on the transmission commercial when you bounce up and down). So I'm going to take it to a shop, but the question is:1. should i get it towed? I really want to keep it another year, so i dont want to damage it. The closest place is like 5 mi's.2. what could it be? I dont want to seem totally ignorant when I go to the shop.About two weeks ago I had my muffler replaced. Tx

Mayhap you tell us the general location...some of us rats do work on the side, might be able to diagnose a little better in person...but that's at your discretion, as I know I wouldn't want to give my exact location to any Tom, Dick, or Shithead on TDub.There could be a whole slew of problems that are causing those symptoms, from a misfire to a stuck EGR valve to a bad MAP sensor to this, that, or the other. It's really hard to say if you should have it towed when the problem could be any one of a dozen or two things.
