rent your books for A LOT cheaper than you could buy/sell them back for AND chegg will plant a tree for every book you rent from them.

I just saved over $400 renting books this semester rather than going through all the buy/sell bullshit.

students in some majors like to keep their books, too. always nice to be able to go right to what you need in your textbooks at work instead of having to sort through several websites to find a formula.

pretty much every engineer here where i work has a shelf or box full of their college textbooks

If you're looking at prices for chegg, make sure you compare them not to the retail price somewhere else, but to the retail price - the potential sellback price of a book. A lot of the times it's actually better to buy the book and sell it back than it is to rent it.

^especially with amazon.com. i made money a few times with them(bought a book for 45 and bookstore gave me 55 back for it, etc)

I just use Addall.com to search and sometimes I get lucky and can find an e-book.

I, too, have made money with selling books back.


This would come in handy if there was a book that you knew was changing editions. I hate buying a book for 80 bucks one semester and when you try to sell it, you can't get more than 5 bucks for it.


I had a friend use chegg and she was very satisfied with the service, but it was like 30 bucks I think. Usually I can buy a book and sell it back for almost the same price, so I feel like renting for that price would be kind of a waste.
