Alec Baldwin: I'd like to run for Congress
7/8/2009 4:18:30 PM
he seems like the type of hollywood actor who partied a shitload and therefore would have lots of skeletons in the closet, but who knows
7/8/2009 4:23:14 PM
first thing i thought of wasthat and when he called his daughter a pig (which made me lol)
7/8/2009 4:29:24 PM
7/8/2009 4:46:58 PM
i'd vote for him. like actors with tremendously large egos
7/8/2009 4:49:22 PM
^^no i mean that my GUESS is that bush and clinton did baby stuff compared to Alecbut its just a guessmaybe i'm giving Alec Baldwin too much credit, based mainly on his powerful voice]
7/8/2009 4:51:59 PM
^ I think you give our politicians too much credit. The kind of person who craves that kind of power is also the kind of person who gets themselves in to crazy things.
7/8/2009 4:54:09 PM
I probably would not vote for him. At least not at this moment. I would vote for Al Franken because despite being a funny many he also seems to care about crafting good policy (whether i agree with him or not). Baldwin doesn't strike me that way. Probably because, unlike Franken, he hasn't spent much time writing about these issues. Maybe he's a real wonk behind the scenes. In any case, he's doing too good of a job on 30 Rock to run for office (though I think in Vanity Fair he actually now considers himself a bad actor).
7/8/2009 4:58:40 PM
Wasn't he one of the actors that threatened to move to Canada if Bush got reelected? Not sure if that would hurt his cause or help it I guess the only lasting impact with that comment was that he didn't actually go through with what he promised once Bush was reelected... again not sure whether it would hurt his cause. If anything that gives him politician street cred.[Edited on July 8, 2009 at 8:12 PM. Reason : -]

Oh man, this makes me want to go watch Team America: World Police all over again.FILM ACTORS GUILDReally though, this just seems like a hilariously bad idea. What's his education/background as far as legal bullshit goes? Does he just have opinions or does he have some law education that would make him fit to be a legislator?
7/8/2009 11:26:12 PM
"thats the fag way" "when you see what we have done you'll say way to go FAG"
7/9/2009 12:04:33 AM
I think Alec Baldwin is a great actor. The problem is that he appears to be a second-rate human being--and for the love of Christ, I don't even want to think about him as a member of Congress.
7/9/2009 5:20:48 PM
alec baldwin to jack cafferty:
7/9/2009 5:30:02 PM
^ Temperament for starters. Couple of examples:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjnNo1j0THAhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J0-ZatDHugBut why do you care how I came to the conclusion? Are you saying Baldwin should be in Congress--yes or no?
7/9/2009 5:36:32 PM
i was wondering why you think he's a second-rate human being.
7/9/2009 5:38:30 PM
^ See ^^ for starters.
7/9/2009 5:45:50 PM
yeah. i'm listening to the first one now. and sean hannity sounded like he was dragging the convo down as much as he could. but basically a petty little argument.and for the record, while baldwin seems to exaggerate, i do think that bush did a lot of harm to our democracy in his years as president. and the CIA did kill people in its interrogations in gitmo. i don't think any of our senators should be stoned to death.anyhow. i don't really care if baldwin is a congressman or not. it won't be my decision whether he is either way since i don't live in NY.[Edited on July 9, 2009 at 5:57 PM. 7/9/2009 5:46:58 PM
^ It appears that Baldwin lied. In any event, Hannity appears to be doing all right for himself.Sean Hannity Gets $100 Million Dealhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/21/sean-hannity-gets-100-mil_n_114026.htmlDid you catch the part where Baldwin called Bill O'Reilly talented?
7/9/2009 6:06:07 PM
about what did he lie?and i think that hannity is good at doing what talk-show hosts do and that's talk.
7/9/2009 6:08:32 PM
and where is your proof that the cia killed people at gitmo?
7/9/2009 6:11:03 PM
people who are being held without charge have died at gitmo. we also know that they were exposed to extreme conditions as part of their torture enhanced interrogation techniques. there have also been suggestions that people have died during waterboarding at gitmo. now maybe this stuff didn't happen. i don't have access to classified files. but i would be incredibly surprised if no one died as a result of these interrogation tactics.

7/9/2009 6:29:05 PM
so, what you are saying is that you have no proof and you just pulled shit out of your ass. got it.
7/9/2009 7:08:39 PM
^ LOL!
7/9/2009 7:18:41 PM
did i say i approve of obama's treatment of the gitmo problem? no i didn't. in fact i've said the opposite in the credibility thread.BUT. obama has had a much tougher problem because of how much the bush administration and the cia fucked up the interrogations. that doesn't excuse him. i still think that charges should be drawn up for every detainee and they should be go to trial just like any other criminal charged with terrorism or whatever. it's the politically difficult thing to do. but it is the right thing. unfortunately dumbasses (especially on the right but really on both sides) can't even imagine putting terror suspects in US supermax prisons, much less let them potentially be released if not found guilty in a trial.
7/9/2009 11:23:26 PM
I don't think, aside from the NIMBY effect, that too many people have a problem with putting these people in supermax prisons. I think, and I know it is this way for me, that the real issue is that the truly guilty will get high-falutin lawyers and get off scot-free. Then, they return to the battlefield, like many others, and begin killing again. I don't have any problem with the innocent being found not guilty. And, there's a tertiary problem here, now. Some people we picked up truly were innocent. Now they hate our guts and will join the fight if we let them go. You put this person into a US court, and he will be set free. But you can't honestly say that we should let such a person go. And such people are, due to our stupidity, far more numerous than the liberal wet dreams would have us believe. The people in gitmo are not the same as the people that we bring in to our criminal justice system. They can't be treated the same way. But, they also can't be treated the same way as simple POWs, either. They are humans, and they have rights, no matter how much Dick Cheney wants us to believe otherwise. But, they aren't all little angels, either, as Nancy Pelosi wants us to believe.
7/9/2009 11:55:30 PM
wtf does nancy pelosi have to do with anything?and why can't we release people who we've wrongly imprisoned again? because they might fight against us? well that's the price we pay. and that's why it's difficult for obama to do. but i am disappointed that he hasn't. (and i honestly don't think he will).also the NIMBYism is the whole problem. congress already said that they wouldn't fund any shutdown of gitmo. i know they said without a plan. so hopefully they'll be more receptive if more details are laid out. but i wouldn't count on it.
7/10/2009 12:03:36 AM
no. it's not just NIMBY.
7/10/2009 12:30:07 AM
i meant that's the main reason that the congress disallowed funding for closing gitmo (ie if it weren't for NIMBYism then the amendment wouldn't have passed)
7/10/2009 10:04:26 AM
to be fair, from what it sounds like on that tape, his daughter deserved to hear those words and potentially deserved much worse.
7/10/2009 11:35:20 AM
7/10/2009 11:58:34 AM
that reminds me of the it's always sunny in phildelphia episode where charlie accidentally kidnaps someone. the gang then proceeds to keep him kidnapped so that he won't get them in trouble (and then kidnaps someone else). i know that show occasionally delves into political commentary. maybe that episode was preemptive commentary on aaronburro's illogic.
7/10/2009 12:12:16 PM
¡¡¡SOMOS EXTREMOS!!!
7/10/2009 12:16:52 PM

Know what sucks about being a Baldwin?NOTHING[Edited on July 13, 2009 at 3:12 PM. Reason : link]
7/13/2009 3:12:05 PM
^^no more than Alec is a left wing lunatic.
7/14/2009 10:22:28 AM
did i say shit about obama? he made those comments in 2006. and again, note the comments i've made multiple times regarding obama's handling (so far) of gitmo (and other civil liberties issues in general).
7/14/2009 10:38:34 AM
lol, i'm not talking about gitmo or detainees at all. more like his socialist tendencies, as well as the appointments of all these "czars" that have so much power, and yet are not elected officials.
7/14/2009 2:07:55 PM
nearly no one in the executive branch is an elected official, that's just how it works
7/14/2009 2:16:20 PM
7/14/2009 2:38:28 PM
I'm aware that the president can appoint as many people as he wants, as long as he stays within budget. He's certainly pushing hard to continue cronyism, that's for sure.
