I need software that will convert a series of jpeg images from a webcam and convert them to some commonly used video format. I need software with:
1) controllable video compression (uncompressed AVI is way too large) and output resolution
2) the ability to accept a large number of input files (hundreds or thousands)
3) controllable settings for how long a single image gets displayed (30/second to 1/second)
(4) either a batch processing feature or that runs from the command line.

I don't have a large preference for windows versus *nix, but if it is *nix based I need to be able to install it without the root password.

Basically I have a webcam pointing out of my office window that takes a picture every minute. I'd like to string all the images together into a time-lapse video. My searching hasn't turned up any software that will do everything that I would like.

"SUPER © supports the following formats as input source file:
- Input Image Sequence: jpg, pgm, png, ppm (with sequentially numbered-ONLY filenames)
having the same filename numbered-ONLY format. Example: 0001.jpg --up to--> 0999.jpg
note that this format will NOT work name_0001.jpg --up to--> name_0999.jpg (take out name_)"

While Super looks promising, does anyone know of one that will handle more than 999 images.

sort of. it's really limited in the resolutions you can output (or it was when i last did this).

i've used something called "open video joiner" as well as virtual dub. they both had their issues buti honestly don't remember what they were.
