NC State junior linebacker Nate Irving was injured in a car accident on Saturdaynight and is currently in the Wake Med Trauma Center with non-life threateninginjuries. Irving suffered a broken leg and a collapsed lung and is scheduled to undergosurgery on the leg on Sunday evening.“Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with Nate and his family,” said head coachTom O’Brien. “All of his teammates and coaches will be there to support him as herecovers and goes through the process of rehabilitation.”Irving was an honorable mention All-ACC performer in 2008, despite missing almost athird of the season with injuries. He tied for third on the team with 84 stops.pack pride is the sourcei know someone posted about it in the SC game thread but this deserves its own thread. we are cursed.[Edited on June 28, 2009 at 12:47 PM. As someone stated in the SC days thread, hopefully Terrell manning is everything he was cracked up to be coming out of highschool.
6/28/2009 12:49:10 PM

6/28/2009 1:03:35 PM
Fuck. Get better Nate.
6/28/2009 1:06:31 PM
This is why, no matter how much hype (or even lack of hype) we have for a promising season in any sport, I don't get excited until its actually happening or happened. Just way too much NCSS for us to EVER count our chickens before they hatch.
6/28/2009 1:20:45 PM
Well, it took me about 3-4 months before I was walking unassisted after shattering my femur in a car accident. About a year before the limp was completely gone. I'm also not an athlete and slacked on my rehab. An athlete who actually tries should be able to be fully recovered in considerably less time, maybe 6 months total. That's assuming it's a femur injury, which is worst case scenario. A break in the lower leg wouldn't take nearly as long. So, maybe........
6/28/2009 1:27:46 PM
were drugs involved?
6/28/2009 1:33:01 PM
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!I hope he gets to play at least 6 games.
6/28/2009 1:35:50 PM
Im sure this will be a medical red-shirt year. I doubt he will even attempt to play if he can redshirt and keep a year of eligibility.
6/28/2009 1:38:10 PM
wtf this is some nc state shit as usual
6/28/2009 1:40:57 PM
why not move this to chit chat? i was about to post it over there. yay for Search. broken leg...collapsed lung...surgery today...OUT FOR SEASONhttp://www.wralsportsfan.com/ncsu/story/5457427/
6/28/2009 2:17:38 PM
So what is the usual medical rehabilitation time to recuperate from a broken leg AND a collapsed lung? IM guessing a minimum of 6-8 months, although I hope its half of that time. Who is Irving's backup?
6/28/2009 2:39:45 PM
IT BEGINS! OMFG WHY WHY
6/28/2009 2:47:58 PM
you got to laugh at this shit.I mean really?..........really?..............................really????
6/28/2009 2:51:21 PM
he has 7 months to recover so he can be back in time to play in the BCS Championship Game
6/28/2009 2:52:49 PM
no way he's ready by the start of the season. Medical hardship?
6/28/2009 2:53:24 PM
So who are all of our back-ups at Irving's position?
6/28/2009 2:56:21 PM
and even more important how good are they? Well, as crappy as this is maybe this reveals some other star on our roster that we did not originally know about! Get well soon Nate!
6/28/2009 2:57:59 PM
MJ died,Billy Mays died,now this?
6/28/2009 3:02:49 PM
^ holy crap, i just went to post on tww about how insane it is US is up 2-0 and I saw this thread and read your post and now I'm pretty damn saddened
6/28/2009 3:07:11 PM
he's going to get a medical hardship redshirt prolly
6/28/2009 3:13:16 PM
or turn pro??
6/28/2009 3:15:36 PM
do you care more about the person or that the games will be impacted with his sidelining?just curious
6/28/2009 3:48:31 PM
How do you expect anyone that doesn't know another personally to "care about the person"?That's dumb shit trolls ask.
6/28/2009 3:52:45 PM
do what
6/28/2009 3:53:38 PM
He presented a ridiculous false dilemma because thats what trolls do.
6/28/2009 4:01:24 PM

6/28/2009 4:27:21 PM
6/28/2009 4:30:57 PM
We can't ever catch a break. Typical NC State shit. Best of luck on your recovery, Nate!
6/28/2009 4:32:38 PM
All NC State players must be put into plastic bubbles when not on the field. Jesus.
6/28/2009 4:33:54 PM
i dont think it will be that bad, we still have a good 2 months *about* before the 1st game, i'm really hoping he only misses one game, if that. still sucks though
6/28/2009 4:38:15 PM
we have a lot of linebackers. obviously this sucks but for the team, this might not impact them too terribly much. I know he's the best one of them, and a great playmaker, but they'll still be pretty solid.hopefully for his sake he's fine and gets better soon though.
6/28/2009 4:47:43 PM
it's not like he broke a finger man...he's having surgery to repair his broken leg...if it's his femur, that thing usually takes at least 12 weeks to healthere is no way he's back on the field playing 9 weeks from now.[Edited on June 28, 2009 at 4:49 PM. Reason : .]
6/28/2009 4:48:28 PM
i wish i was a ST mod so bad so that i could suspend anyone using the phrase "nc state shit".
6/28/2009 4:53:54 PM
not to mention you have to get that limb's muscles back to 100% before playing
6/28/2009 4:59:10 PM
just trying to be optimistic, i mean nobody wanted this to happen at all, but its better it happened NOW as opposed to in the middle of the season or during our acc schedule right?
6/28/2009 5:07:18 PM
^not reallyif you wanna play that game, it would have been better to happen last december
6/28/2009 5:14:13 PM
straight up some nc state shit right thur
6/28/2009 5:28:52 PM
