My friends and I have theorized that by 2012, either the Democratic party or the Republican party (or both) may fully dissolve leading to the following scenarios:Libertarians (very limited govt. on all counts) vs. Republicans (govt. handles moral issues, but not economic)orTheocrats (Moral Right) vs. Capitalists (Economic Right)orLibertarians vs. Theocrats vs. CapitalistsAny thoughts on this matter?

yes... the party that maintained near absolute power 4 years agoand the party that maintains near absolute power now...yeah... that's going to happen

So after it all falls apart, the only powers remaining are 3 different factions of the right? I honestly don't see libertarians as ever breaking free of the GOP.

Swackhammer, owner of the amusement park planet Moron Mountain is desperate get new attractions and he decides that the Looney Tune characters would be perfect. He sends his diminutive underlings to get them to him, whether Bugs Bunny & Co. want to go or not. Well armed for their size, Bugs Bunny is forced to trick them into agreeing to a competition to determine their freedom. Taking advantage of their puny and stubby legged foes, the gang selects basketball for the surest chance of winning. However, the Nerdlucks turn the tables and steal the talents of leading professional basketball stars to become massive basketball bruisers known as the Monstars. In desperation, Bugs Bunny calls on the aid of Micheal Jordan, the Babe Ruth of Basketball, to help them have a chance at winning their freedom.

Part of me wishes the Libertarians would break free. I wouldn't join the party or anything, but I might vote for some of their candidates. There may be a split in the Republican party, and it may be on roughly along some of the lines you describe, but I don't think it will be so clear cut. It wasn't long ago that the mainstream Republican party managed to balance moral and economic issues with some competence.Ideally, the religious hardliners -- for lack of a better term -- would be pushed into their own party, leaving Republicans who still care about moral issues but don't work themselves into a frothing rage over them all the time. And ideally (if only for the sake of balance, to have two competitive main parties) certain elements of the Democratic base/party would then change affiliation to join the more moderate Republican party, or they'd have their own split, though I'm not sure what the camps would be.

A split would have to be engineered, and i don't know of any competent person working on engineering a split.Ron Paul is too insane, and the Republicans don't seem to be motivated enough to potentially alienate the religious right.
6/15/2009 10:36:08 PM
Eh, given a couple of years, it could still happen.
6/15/2009 10:44:11 PM
the republican party is worthless without the religious right.the democratic party still has to pander to the god fearing members of society. When they stop then maybe the republicans can take a breather and everyone can start having adult converstations.

Democrats are fairly stout right now. Republicans are struggling though. People are finally seeing through their bullshit economic theories that fucked everyone in the ass and lumping them in with the religious right regardless of whether they believe that shit or not. If there's gonna be a split anywhere it's gonna be with the Republicans because the religious right is going to alienate themselves. They've been whored for all their worth and now they're worthless. The fact that Sarah Palin is even considered as one of the leading candidates for 2012 is absolutely ridiculous. This is how it will go down...Primaries begin, Sarah Palin is top 2 or 3 in the running for Republican candidate. She loses. Decides she's worth much more than she really is. Runs as an independent. Republican party splits between religious moonbats who support her and rational people that don't. They're stomped. End of Republican party. Beginning of something I can't possibly imagine right now. I don't think it will be good either. Anytime either party holds onto power too long is bad.

6/16/2009 6:53:38 PM
the GOP isn't going to split into multiple parties, at least not by 2012 or anytime soon thereafter.Hopefully the Libertarian Party (and libertarian-minded GOP candidates) will pull enough votes away from the rest of them to force them to move the party significantly in that direction, though.
