I am thinking about selling my mothers old laptop, I want to know if it worth the time to get it cleaned up or if I should just pull the hard drive and donate it somewhere. So, what do you think I can get for the following.Sony PCG-SR17 Vio NotebookPentium III 700 MHz processorWindows Millenium edition192MB RAM20 GB Hard disk10.4 XGA TFT ScreenAlso comes with wireless card and seperate CD rewritable drive. The thing is less than 3 pounds and 1" thick, I think it wouls be a great netbook for someone (thats all my mom used it for anyway). So what do yall think I can sell it for (on craigslist not the cheapskates here)?

i think you'll be lucky if someone takes the time to drive out and take it off your hands for free

I gave $20 for one with identical specs last month. If the battery works in yours I'll go $30.[Edited on June 7, 2009 at 1:58 PM. Reason : Oh, it's small. Yeah, it's worth a little more.]

actually yeah u can get a netbook for as low as $150. you should be able to get $100 for it on CL

Because

40-50 dollar bucks.I suppose it also depends on how good the screen looks as well. If it's kind of assy looking and has a poor viewing angle, then maybe subtract $10. Subtract another $5-10 if it has any major damage to the laptop's housing.[Edited on June 7, 2009 at 4:43 PM. Reason : ^ Linux nerds love that shit.]

Wow. All I can say to that is there must be a bunch of dummies on CL.

i've sold my fair share of crappy, outdated computer equipment on craigslist for more than they're worththat said, i think that you'd be hard-pressed to get $100 for it...i'd say $75, tops, if you're good at making it sound like a netbook (i don't condone lying, of course, but you can spin the specs and emphasize the size and weight)

Thanks for the input everybody. Sold it on CL for $100 to a guy who apparently resells for a living. I dbanned the hard drive (even though there wasn't any information on it anyway). I guess he knew what he was doing so you certainly can get a decent amount for an old laptop. I am still getting e-mails with offers to buy (even though I removed the ad).

see, he probably could have got $150+ for it. not only did he get $100 for it, but the guy who bought it is gonna resell it.cheap asses on tww != general buying publicmy general rule with selling stuff on CL is start at least 20-30% higher than you think you can get for it...if nothing happens after 3 days drop the price and repost]

I'd rather be a cheap ass than a dumb ass. Those specs are terrible.

Actually I found that a lot of people resell them in 3rd world countries for way more than they are worthI just had someone come through that sold a used high end Compaq for $20 more than what it cost new. He had other business here and sold 6 or 7 in about 2 days.
