"I didn't know that was running!" Said to me after a fucking intern brought our entire network to a crawl in order to download several torrents of some TV show called Harper's Creek. You knew it was running, you fuck. Now he's gotta sign another copy of the corporate AUP and if he does anything like that again he's gonna get told not to come back. That shit grinds my gears.

The fact that he's using company time to illegally download entertainment to possibly watch on company time makes me think it's not worth keeping him around.Plenty of other students that would rather have his/her intern spot.

If he's getting his job done, who gives a fuck what he does (as long as he's not sucking up all the bandwidth, in that case, you give a fuck).
6/4/2009 10:32:57 AM
yeah, upper management doesn't see it that way.

If shit were setup properly an idiotic intern wouldn't be able to download shit like that. and especially not with enough bandwidth to bring the entire network to a crawl.[Edited on June 4, 2009 at 10:40 AM. Reason : d'oh, thanks V lol]

Yeah, I completely agree with the bandwidth and the liability concerns. It sounded, however, like he was initially just complaining because doing etc. on the internet equals doing a bad job.

count on tech talk to blame the company instead of the intern for violating company policy, choking the entire network, preventing people from doing their jobs, and lying about it.
6/5/2009 6:25:16 AM
Right, because if a clueless intern can bring the network to a halt with a couple of torrents then there's not a single other scenario that would ever do the same.My roommates don't even get away with this bullshit.l2QoS

agreed.with no qos, you were just asking for trouble.
6/5/2009 9:48:15 AM
Oh there's no qos of any sort...We're moving in August to new digs, equipment is in the process of being procured. I'm going to see if I can wrest some of the control of that from the parent company because this shi*t is ass backward.

if management doesn't want to shell out the cash for an "enterprise" routing platform, look at pfSense (as suggested earlier in this thread). it was forked from m0n0wall.

Anything I do on my own will get the IT department at the parent company a little testy and likely jeopardize my job. I doubt "hey lemme throw pfsense on a box" is going to work.
