[old] obviously but I have some questions about this movie that aren't entirely relevant to the thread on the newest movie.

i just watched this for the first time in maybe 10 years and didn't understand a few things.

1) why didn't the bug kill Checkov? wasn't it supposed to dig deeper into his head? instead it just crawled right out when he started to disobey.

2) did spock design the kobyashi mission or didn't he? there was no suggestion that he was the engineer behind the test in this film, but everything else fit with the new story.

3) if kahn was supposed to have such a superior intellect, why did kahn's pilot know way more about space than kahn did?

4) why would anyone ever cast kirstie ally in ANY role? she shows more emotion int he first 10 minutes than spock did in his entire life, yet Spock is the one who is half-human. She was playing a full Vulcan and did not show the typical Vulcan behavior and logic until halfway through the movie.

1 i am sure someone can answer easy

2. i didnt know he was the one that did it...and not everything fit, because in kahn it sounded bad ass, but in the new one, they explained it very gayly

3. maybe kahn is captain cause he has superior intellect, even though the other dude knows more about space?

4. i wasnt bothered by kristie alley

Spock says it while they are in the nebula. While far more intelligent; Kahn lacks Experience.

After explaining how kahn thinks in 2d, why did enterprise rise back up to the same level to shoot them as opposed to rotating their ship from below to shoot?

They cut out a scene that explained that Saavik is half-Romulan.

whether he did or not in the original canon is irrelevant to the new film because in the new film they're in a different timeline (one that got changed because of the attack on the Kelvin)

That Enterprise model was notoriously difficult to film, even to create basic maneuvers. I'm gonna guess that has something to do with it - having it just rise straight up and down was probably easier to do.

Kirstie Alley was a babe back in the day.

Before she ate Shelly Long, I mean.

I think the Kobayashi Maru just grew into such a big part of Trek canon that they were basically obligated to throw it into any film about Kirk at the academy.

Yeah, she just announced it a week or two ago.

I think she's just pulling an Anne Heche after some bad cock.
