2000 Dodge Cummins 2500now, any of you have any tips on how to get it running again???I tried the whole turn the key to the on position and back off thing, didnt work.and yes I realize how stupid it was to let it run out, turns out the electrical system needs an upgrade, the fuel gauge is dying, but at 230k miles im happy nothing else major has happened.read somewhere that I can take the air filter cover off and spray in WD40 and it will crank...anythinggggg?

gotta prime the injection pump, then bleed the injectors individually until it runs smooth. There should be some information out there, google is the friend

i googled my butt off when i was in the truck earlier, back home now waiting on mechanic to go check it out an dsee what he can dowhere is the primer?? ive tried searching

should be on top top of the fuel filter housing. (or is that on GMs)

it was an electronic primer from the keyWe had to put WD40 in the air intake after about 10 tries it finally started againmoral of the story...diesels are cool but dont ever let them run out of fuel

It works, and is safer by miles than ether.

i only use brake parts cleaner to do it. i mean ive got tons of motors running with wd40, but i thing(personaly) wd40 burns longer than intake, brake parts cleaner. and i dont exactly want to have a back fire into rubber and plastic housing.just my take. at least you go it running though. thumbs up. next time pay attention to the gauge. its there for a reason

^brake parts cleaner isn't flammable you fucking idiot. wd40 is perfect for safely starting a diesel. it has a very high flash temp compared to other flammable liquids, but the high compression of a diesel makes it work well. if you don't believe me, go spray a puddle of it on the ground. try to light it and see what happens. older versions used to make for nice torches, but only because of the lp aerosol propellant. they use co2 now. also, you obviously missed the part where he said the truck is having electrical problems and THE GUAGE DOESN'T WORK. congratulations, you win again for dumbest post in a thread.to the OP, be glad it's a 24v. you would have been doing quite a bit more work to prime a 12v or other mechanical diesel.
