I've heard good things about http://www.bluehost.com and http://www.inmotionhosting.com/. http://www.dreamhost.com is popular but I'm not sure about it.I just ended with my old host and need a new hosting option just for personal webpage and email so the bandwidth doesn't have to be huge but I would like to remain flexible so that I can create a frontend for some personal files and communication with my home network.

i'd say dreamhost for best $$/GB value, but i've had some issues with uptime. if you dont need lots of bandwidth go with someone more reliable

I use site5 and I've not had any problems.http://www.site5.com/in.php?id=13604

site5 is gooddreamhost is goodpersonally, i don't like not having complete control over everything... so i'd much rather go with a VPS from somewhere like linode and set things up myself.

mediatemple.net

^^I agree in principle and would provide the most flexible solution but would probably be overkill for my usage and a greater cost but if you know a good host it would be good to have the info on those as well.

I haven't dealt with dreamhost in a while, so I don't know if they still have lots of outages, but it's hard to beat this:

^ i wonder if anyone has told them that memorial day is the 25th, not today.

The only problem I have with Media Temple is that they're pretty piss poor about telling you about usage overages on Grid Servers. I got an e-mail saying my "estimated" overage was $2 and it wound up being about $40.For dedicated servers, I never had any issues with http://www.theplanet.com and http://www.softlayer.com (my current host) has been great as well.
