Soils or Environmental. I can take either. Which should I take?

i'll tutor you in 342 for a fee... if you decide to take it.

What do you want to do when you graduate? The subject matter is very different, but I wouldn't say either class is way harder than the other, Soils may be a little more work (especially with the lab). I would say take the class that will be most relevant to you once you graduate.

i'd say soils just for the lab.(you still have to take hydraulics and structures lab if you don't take soils, right? i know they recently shifted some stuff around.)

342 is more interesting and the lab is fun/easy grade. however, it can be a very tough class. It's calculation based.373 is all class/bookwork, however there is a lot of good information in the class. It's almost all conceptual/reading/etc with very few calculations. this is also made into a very tough class. [Edited on May 7, 2009 at 2:45 PM. Reason : .]

who did you have it with? it has changed in the last year then. when I say calculation based, I mean that's the basis of the whole class, all the topics, etc, and does not include those easy, BS calculations like a teacher gives you a simple equation and you plug and chug basicallywhen I took it, maybe 20% of the material was calculation based. the rest were on air/water quality concepts with a few simple equations here and there [Edited on May 7, 2009 at 2:48 PM. i had it w/ knappe. the tests were probably 10% concept and 90% problems. they weren't super difficult (especially if you remember chemistry), but they weren't any more plug and chug than soils was when i took it.

wow. completely different than ducoste. I guess this class really depends on the instructor then.

Yea, I had it with knappe, and there was quite a bit of calculations, involving a lot of chemistry.

I'd say CE 342. I took it with Parish....definitely not a cake walk, but learned alot that I use at my job now. Pretty fun lab too, as far as labs go.FE exam had a good number of Environmental questions, but I was able to figure them out fairly easily without ever taking the class. Even if you're leaning toward an environmental field both of these classes would probably be beneficial.

also had 373 w/ knappe...best part about that class is that its over
