Why did the home plate umpire point to the right, before he signaled 'safe' ?just wondering if that's an official call/arm motion
4/27/2009 11:52:19 AM
He was calling the pitch a strike.
4/27/2009 11:54:22 AM
oh oki forgot all about the pitch [Edited on April 27, 2009 at 11:56 AM. Reason : asdf]

I would be scared stealing home if a lefty hitter was up and didn't see me and lined a shot right into my faceAlso, if a righty batter was up, it would be awesome if he didn't see you and you slid thru his legs and bangcock'd on the way by
4/27/2009 12:02:52 PM
4/27/2009 12:03:49 PM
lefty guy would have to have blinders or absolutely no peripheral vision to not see youor not like you and "not see you"
4/27/2009 12:05:03 PM
Either way I'm sure the batter knew the steal was on regardless. He was taking all the way. Got lucky getting that slowass curveball too.
4/27/2009 1:33:18 PM
the steal wasn't "on"Ellsbury just took off
4/27/2009 1:43:38 PM
to be honest, i didnt know you were allowed to lead off in the grass like that, i thought they just allowed running on that grass when you are rounding third
4/27/2009 3:14:19 PM
There's usually a word the runner is yelling as he takes off toward home. This is more helpful for right handed hitters, lest the runner take a bat to the face.

"Hoochie Mama"

i almost took a line drive to the face in high school, i was on 3rd and we put on the squeeze and the batter completely missed the signal[Edited on April 27, 2009 at 3:37 PM. Reason : .]

That sort of happened to me. The guy who was up (he replaced our 3 hitter when he got hurt) sucked and couldn't get around on a fastball so they had a crazy shift on. So naturally I took like a 20 foot walking lead and naturally the guy got a change and turned on it. It hit me in the kneecap and bounced right over the shortstops head. Safe to say it hurt... a lot. But at least I was in foul territory and it wasn't an out...[Edited on April 27, 2009 at 3:43 PM. Reason : z]

hahaha but that was a foot outside
4/27/2009 4:11:13 PM
that was a damned ball if i've ever seen one...on a side note to that ^^, I was playing in a rec league on the side (played legion ball for serious) and was warming up between innings and was bouncing the ball about 2 feet in front of home, where it would bounce up in the strike zone.I did this for a few innings and finally, the guys told me to throw it during an at-bat.I did. Ump called strike. The other team cried bloody murder. I laughed.[Edited on April 27, 2009 at 4:13 PM. Reason : ]
