we made some homemade guacamole last nightcheap 2/$1 avocados ftw! what a great fruit...it is a fruit right?
4/24/2009 7:41:55 AM
1 ripe medium avocado (6–8 ounces)1 cup ice (8 ice cubes)1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk1/4 to 1/2 cup milkScoop the avocado flesh into a blender. Add the remaining ingredients, starting out with the least amount of milk and puree until completely smooth. Taste and add additional milk, depending on the avocado type and if a thinner consistency is desired. Though usually I use yogurt and honey instead of the condensed milk.

Avocado shakes are f'ing awesome. There is a place that I go to where they have the best avocado shake in the world. This is how they serve it:In a tall glass they put the blended avocado/milk, and swirl honey into the glass intermittently while filling up with the avocado/milk. That gives an amazing effect when seen from the side--ribbons of honey throughout. The blended avocado/milk is itself not sweetened. They top it with some real dairy cream, but not the commercial kind, rather a home made one which is heavenly. And finally they top that with some blanched almonds and some more honey.I always get it as a drink when I go there, but it is a meal/dessert unto itself!

A medium sized avocado has up to 30 grams of fat. That is why they taste sooooo good[Edited on April 24, 2009 at 10:45 PM. Reason : source: WebMD]

The best way to make an avocado shake is to point a gun at it.

$5 for you to make me one.

sure it has beneficial fat, but a proper serving size is like 1/4 of an avocado, not the whole thing. plus, avocado is usually consumed in the SAD by pairing it with other foods high in fat, like fried tortilla chips and hamburgers, frequently with other fatty toppings like bacon. dietetically it should be considered an oil, not a fruit. eating 2-3 apples a day to satisfy your fruit requirement has no negative effects, while eating 2-3 avocados a day might start to negate all the positive health benefits of including a small amount in your diet.

And jogging is good for you, except that you get kidnapped and decapitated right, so we shoulden't actually exercise.
4/26/2009 11:50:15 PM
I do not care for avocado, but this shake looks strangely appetizing.

what type of yogurt would be good for this? at the moment all i have is the unsweetened, greek-style stuff. should i go for some plain or vanilla yogurt to kick it up a notch?
4/27/2009 1:17:27 AM
organic "cream on top" plain whole milk yogurt is damn good
4/27/2009 1:32:05 AM
4/27/2009 1:36:14 AM
^^^ As long as you added sugar or honey to the Greek yogurt I bet it would be good.

^ One of my father's Greek colleagues told him about that, and of course my father told me. Being into nutrition, I got really excited and didn't think to ask how big their glasses were But now that I think about it, a shot glass makes more sense. At the same time, I can see it being a small drinking glass, around 100 ml. The body works in strange ways.Time to google it!

^^^^ aha, that I can see. I was thinking a juice glass or something
4/27/2009 8:15:07 PM
I'm not a big avocado fan, but I had one sitting around from our weekly market basket (every week, a local farmer's co-op around here puts together a bag of all sorts of local, in-season produce that gets distributed to local businesses, and one of my colleagues and I split it each week). I tried making one of these this morning since there's only so much guacamole I can handle, and it was surprisingly passable for a non-fan. This may become my preferred way of getting rid of avocados, since we tend to get at least one every week for a large part of the year. By the way, if you really like avocados, you should live in California; they're dirt cheap here, and people put them on everything (EVVVERRRRYYYYTHIIIING).
4/29/2009 12:18:29 PM
Definitely want one of these.
4/29/2009 2:20:49 PM
^^ I noticed that last time I was out in California. Avocados are like ketchup to them or something.
