I thought this might make for an interesting and different MLB baseball topic. This thread is about the low budget are teams making some noise in the league. It's fun to pull for the underdogs! The contenders very early on, by record, payroll rank out of 30 teams, and actual payroll:Marlins: 11-4 / ranked #30 (dead last) / $36,834,000 best record in the league right nowPadres: 9-6 / ranked #29 / $43,734,200Pirates: 9-6 / ranked #28 / $48,693,000Royals: 8-6 / ranked #21 / $70,519,333 You compare this to the top payroll teams able to spend $100 to $200 million who are struggling early on and this is pretty impressive. The Rays are sitting at 6-9 but I think they will eventually be contenders for a wild card playoff spot in the American league.[Edited on April 23, 2009 at 11:50 AM. ^^ If the Lions start 1-0 next year that would be very exciting, considering that would be their first win in 679 days.

Marlins will finish ~.500, all of the rest of them will be bottom dwellers. Nothing to see here.

it really irks me how good teams are squandered in florida as far as fan support. i mean the marlins have won 2 titles in the last 12 years and they STILL can't get people there

they also didn't have any of the players that just won those titles in the following years. If the Braves won a WS and then got rid of everybody I wouldn't want to go see a bunch of people I'd never really heard of either.
