The possibility of a snowy Super Bowl is for some reason very scary to the NFL.I think it would be fucking awesome.
4/15/2009 8:49:54 PM
MAYBEMAYBEin like 20 yearsneed more hotels downtown...honestly downtown needs to be expanded which is kind of impossible...but basically no time soon[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 8:52 PM. Reason : .]
4/15/2009 8:51:11 PM
it won't happen evaaar
4/15/2009 8:52:04 PM
I think it would be big for the city. Just think of what it would do for local business. They could have special events in conjunction with Discovery Place and the Bobcats.
4/15/2009 8:52:08 PM
As long as teams keep building new stadiums it will be pushed back. But it has to happen some time.
4/15/2009 8:52:19 PM
it would be big for any city, we just currently arent a big enough city to support itMeineke Car Care Bowl? CheckACC Tournament? CheckSuper Bowl? Thats a whole different magnitude^its not just about the stadium...in fact thats a minor detail relatively...its more about the ability for a city to be able to semi-comfortably accomodate a 2-week influx of a quarter million people...Charlotte doesn't have the infrastructure for that[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 8:54 PM. if it weren't for detroit hosting it a few yrs agoi would say they want to hold it in locations where people would actually want to visit, which isn't charlotte (but isnt detroit either)
4/15/2009 8:55:12 PM
Well Detroit got the new stadium.Plus I'm sure Ford threw the NFL some dough.
4/15/2009 8:56:55 PM
people could stay the month of january, go to the Meineke Bowl, then some Bobcats games. Maybe a side trip to Kannapolis.
4/15/2009 8:58:26 PM
BoA is the only non-dome NFL stadium I've been to, im curious what the others are like in comparison to go to
4/15/2009 8:58:37 PM
Global Warming would have to kick in first
4/15/2009 9:18:44 PM
4/15/2009 9:20:42 PM
I don't think Charlotte meets the requirement for the superbowl. It's something like the average temperature in Jan/Feb must be over 50 degrees for any non-dome stadium. If it's a dome stadium it doesn't matter.
4/15/2009 9:38:12 PM
also, syracuse would be great for a final four since they have the carrier dome, right?
4/15/2009 9:39:47 PM
yep, not to mention it probably doesn't have enough of the infrastructure needed (hotels, parking, restaurant facilities)new stadium will be needed before charlotte can host though

when did Minneapolis host a Super Bowl? (not denying, just wondering..bc it doesnt ring a bell to me)
4/15/2009 10:16:25 PM
Super Bowl 26
4/15/2009 10:17:34 PM
That's when the Redskins beat the Bills.
4/15/2009 10:22:08 PM
4/15/2009 10:26:34 PM
i dont see Charlotte ever really aiming to have a retractable roof type of stadium either... I think its only reasonable to have one in an environment with extreme conditions
4/15/2009 10:29:40 PM
Yeah, there's really no reason for one in Charlotte and, anyway, BoA is aging well.Speaking of Minnesota and retractable roofs and whatnot, what the fuck are the Twins thinking moving to an open-air stadium. Could you imagine a late October game played outside in Minneapolis?[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 10:35 PM. Reason : paging Brass Monkey]

Charlotte needs to get over their whole "we're a happening, big city" mentality and stop trying to be something they're notI remember NBA players saying Charlotte was boring when the all-star game was there
4/15/2009 11:10:23 PM
regarding the Twins wanting to move to an open stadiumwould the Metrodome stay in tact for the Vikings or would they tag along
4/15/2009 11:11:18 PM
i dont mind them having the mentality, i just wish they would follow through
4/15/2009 11:11:58 PM
The Vikings have a new downtown retractable roof stadium in the works too (and it's super fly). I guess the Gophers are gonna be the Metrodome's only tenants, unless there's a Minneapolis arena team or WNBA team or something.
4/15/2009 11:14:13 PM
^ The University of Minnesota built a new on-campus stadium, called TCF Bank Stadium, that will open next season. It will have a capacity of 50,300. It was designed to resemble Minnesota's old Memorial Stadium that the Gophers played in from 1924 to 1981. The stadium was torn down, but it's archway entrance was preserved and installed in the interior atrium over the entrance to a small museum at the McNamara Alumni Center. The stadium was designed to support future expansion to seat up to 80,000 people. It has an open end that gives views of downtown Minneapolis.

Charlotte is top 20 in the country in populationPop density is ranked much lower though
4/16/2009 12:12:38 AM
one of my favorite things to do when going to a new city (one i havent been to) is to at least ride by the stadiumsi went to phoenix recently and toured Chase Field...it was pretty cool, we got to go down into locker rooms and the dugout and they have this restaurant/bar behind home plate underneath all the seatsthe video screen was like ridiculously big and a pretty fuckin clear picture too
4/16/2009 12:15:42 AM
Its not a population issue. Charlotte is not a tourist destination, so we are not prepared for such things.Do you know what is considered the #1 tourist site in the state of North Carolina? Is it the Outer Banks? Historic Wilmington? Grandfather Mountain? RTP? Nope.Concord Mills Shopping Mall.
4/16/2009 1:06:20 AM
Which is contradictory because it's practically in Charlotte.
4/16/2009 9:34:05 AM
very much so
4/16/2009 9:47:29 AM
The super bowl should rotate between Miami, New Orleans, San Diego and maybe GlendaleThats itFun cities in Warm Weather environments
4/16/2009 10:22:32 AM
^^^The point is its a fucking mall.^I would add Houston to that list.[Edited on April 16, 2009 at 10:31 AM. Reason : -]

Number of people might be similar, although most of them are probably in north Charlotte / Concord and not downtown near the stadium...also the majority of people who come for race week are average folks, whereas most people who come into town for a SB are huge ballers...we can have a little concert in Tryon St and have some beer stands, but for the SB you better have a lot more lavish stuff[Edited on April 16, 2009 at 10:43 AM.
