Republicans no matter what Obama does are going to spin it into a negative light as a desperate struggle to hurt his credibility in an attempt to reclaim the white house.

I swear Republicans are so upset that a democrat/liberal/half blackman was elected president that they have gone off the deep end. Half the bitching I hear my have some merit and the other half seems to be some deranged schizophrenic rant that i'd expect to hear off the Rush Limbaugh show.

Conservatives, keep in mind: you have at least FOUR YEARS to make up for liberal Bush-bashing. Try to space it out.

I swear, the anti-Obama diatribe is thicker now than the Bush-bashing ever was, and we haven't even seen the result's of his policies yet.

Well, the outcome really doesn't matter. What Obama is doing by continuing what Bush started is terrible. That it works out in the end is not going to change that.

-bringing back gold standard
-AMERO
-not abolishing medicaid and medicare
-privatizing the military
-not appointing Ron Paul king of the Confederacy

the difference between McPalin and Obama as far as the economy goes is....

McPalin with guidance of republican leaders would have bailed out our friendly big corporations GM, BAC, Citi-Group, AIG, Ford under the typical republican policy of the last couple decades of "socialize the losses privatize the profits".

Obama for better or for worse beyond just bailing out wall st. and big business has at least included, call it what you will pork/earmarks/add-ons, that at least in some way can reach out to benefit people of the regular population.

Under pure capitalism that i believe in and to which some conservatives get mis-guided under we would have no such bailouts. Nonetheless if we are "bailing out" we might as well give money to geologists monitoring volcanoes in Oregon, pay to upgrade the infrastructure, and consider other crap beyond just assisting the Executive Vice President of Operations for AIG. The VP than using his "performance/retention" bonus so that he can make the down payment for a vacation house in Bermuda; paid with using tax-payer dollars.

Listen, this isn't about bullshit partisan politics. At least not for me. This is about somehow averting a depression the likes of which we've never seen. It may be too late, it's hard to say. Obama isn't taking the right steps, in any case. There's simply no way to spend our way out of this shit. If McCain was in office, he'd be doing the same thing, and I'd be criticizing him. But to think that Obama's policies are coming under fire simply because he's Obama...no.

Although I wish it were under better circumstances and more wide spread, at least he's getting politicians to pay their share of the taxes too.

we're either in different parts of the world, or that first part is an outright lie. as for the second part of that statement, are you telling me you think obama's policies, especially most recently the ridiculous amount of money we don't have getting thrown around, that he's moving in some sort of reasonable direction?

wrong. I don't feel like writing them all out but McCain would've done a number of things differently. Just a quick one off the top of my head would be cutting/suspending the capital gains tax which would've boosted the stock market.

Its hard for me to imagine that anyone actually thinks this. Unreal....

Its true that there are a few outspoken conservatives who are knocking Obama (FN, Rush, Hannity, etc...). But that hardly compares to 8 years of incessant bush bashing from the entire force of CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, The NYT, LA Times (lots of other papers I cant think of). Both sides have thie critics but man...try to be intellectually honest. The Bush bashing was insane from day 1 when he "stole the election".

if you want to be "intellectually honest", then you'll have to admit that Bush, Cheney and Rove stirred up enough controversy along the way that they deserved constant scrutiny. I mean, we're still learning of some of the secret stuff Cheney was in charge of while in office, and we probably will never know all of it.

So basically everyone but Fox news...right I get it. I just meant the bashing that happens here in the Soap Box. Pre-iraq, bush bashing amounted to giggling at his mispronunciation of the word nuclear.

sounds like a horrible idea to me.

lets shift the tax burden purely to the upper-middle/professional and working class. No fear the aristocrats of america you can invest/manipulate/exploint all you want on wall street; tax free!!. Reagenomics and USA #1

^ well, there is a case to be made at some level for lowering or suspending capital gains taxes, but "to boost the stock market" isn't one of them.

"boosting the stock market" isn't a goal for anything we're doing now. When the economy is healthy, then the market will rise, not the other way around - boosting the market doesn't make the economy healthy.

Its fine if you believe that. I not even arguing that. But thats not the same thing I am talking about.

I just have seen numerous people make the statement that "Obama hating is now a bigger thing that Bush bashing" which is just a crazy thing to say.

Quote :

See thats not quite true either. The anger over "Stealing" the election was unlike anything I have ever seen at the time. (im only 25 so...) and then post 9-11 he was called every name in the book for for pushing the patriot act.

Again, if you want to criticize those things, thats fine. But to say that Obama bashing has surpassed Bush bashing??? ......its nowhere close...

Actually, yes, we have seen the results of his policies. It's called Europe. The high unemployment figures they've had there for YEARS are the result of these very same policies that Obama wants to implement.

Don't believe me? Take it up with the analyst from NPR.

Mrs. Obama practically finger-banged the Queen. That's got to count as something positive. That old lady looks like she could use a hug. http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1888962,00.html?cnn=yes

Quite true. In fact, that is why this time around Europeans are actually hating on Obama's stimulus package. They have done it before to excess and had nothing to show for it but a mountain of debt. I guess it is America's curse to learn lesson's a generation after everyone else.

What?!?

Obama bashing has certainly exceeded Bush bashing, when compared for similar times in their presidency. A lot of this is due to communication and the media being drastically different now than then, but you're either delusional or blind if you can't see this.

Did anyone call for Bush's failure within the first 2 months of his presidency? I seem to remember the exact opposite sentiments, in fact. Not to mention the commentators on Fox News implying Obama is an American-hating communist.

i don't know. didn't people egg bush's motorcade during the inauguration? or was that 2004?

either way, i'd say that obama is probably getting a little worse treatment from the press and better treatment from the populace at large than bush.

I was under the impression that they blamed us for the current economic conditions that happened as a side-effect of the housing market bubble burst and credit market collapse?

is this what the O'Reilly factor told you last night?

oh yeah i forgot Clinton really caused the bubble burst and credit market collapse. This was all a ticking time bomb set up by slick willy to make Bush look bad his last year in office. All part of the conspiracy to get a dem elected in 08. what a trickster!

That's true, but the media didn't latch on to that.

Can you imagine what the right would have done if terrorist, non-native born Obama lost the popular vote, and in the state where the votes were in dispute, Obama's brother was the governor?

no I'm talking about what the discussion was about in the first place, not what might or would have happened had events been different

the criticism of Bush started from day one and there's no way Obama criticism has been close to as bad

You're wrong.

Obama's criticism has been much worse, evident in that claiming he's a Communist or implying he's a terrorist is completely baseless.

Oh, okay then. Thanks for clearing that up.

When's the last time "terrorist" was included in any kind of criticism? And when has it ever been included in any legitimate criticism? Random signs and yells during a campaign don't count as criticism as far as this discussion is concerned.
