Advertised Authoritative DNS Servers To No Longer Support Recursive Queries
The machines listed on the page that is linked to below will no longer be able to send recursive queries to ns1.ncsu.edu or ns2.ncsu.edu. If you are using one of the IPs listed on the page linked to below from your off-campus location you are encouraged to use your ISPs DNS servers. If you must use NCSU DNS servers ( due to HESIOD for example ), you will need to update your systems to use the recursive DNS servers as follows:

ns3.ncsu.edu 152.1.1.206 ( location a )
ns4.ncsu.edu 152.1.1.161 ( location a )
ns5.ncsu.edu 152.1.1.248 ( location b )
ns6.ncsu.edu 152.1.2.22 ( location b )

Keep in mind that in the future access to these servers from off-campus will be restricted and that additional steps will need to be taken in order to be able to query an NCSU recursive DNS server from off-campus. If at all possible it is best to configure your system to query your ISPs DNS servers at this time.

If you would like to view a large list (~10MB) of off-campus hosts that are currently sending recursive queries to the advertised authoritative DNS servers you can click: http://scripts.comtech.ncsu.edu/hostreg/off_campus_full.php

Ive been using the NCSU DNS since 2001 I think.

What to do now :-(

I hate the RR default pages when your search or URL goes bad.

Evan's are OpenDNS, mine are Verizon's.

I've used them for years because of stability, speed, and ease of recalling.

OpenDNS is the heat. one of the most useful features is that if you have records that are cached but need to be updated, you can just go to opendns.com and request that they update their cache for that zone.

[Edited on March 30, 2009 at 5:55 PM. Reason : it's really quite sad that i have the addresses memorized]
