we need potted japanese maples for our wedding in june. 4, maybe 6 of them. they have to be green. i would prefer regular leaf ones but may consider the lace leaf ones if that's all we can find. we don't want tiny ones but not super expensive either. maybe in the 4-5' range, and the horizontal growing type (like what you see next to ponds), not the vertical ones. where can we look? i'm going to try the flea market sometime soon. i remember there used to be a lady out there with some. no luck so far at anywhere that sells trees around rocky mount.

it would be super awesome to find japanese maple bonsai trees too, but that's almost impossible. i'm keeping an eye on the bonsai thread for ideas.

There were some decent sized saplings there this weekend for around $30, no details on the variety though. Towards the left end, on the front side, if you're looking @ the stands while facing lake wheeler.

Generally they get that horizontal look from being forced into it (bonsai sort of stuff). I would try looking at the Farmer's Market or Lowe's.

no offense, but if you are lucky enough to find that, you are going to pay quite a bit. japanese maples grow sloooooow and that height in one that grows straight and isn't formed will still cost a good bit of money.

we realize they are expensive, we're just looking for ones that aren't overly expensive, as in appropriately priced.

thanks for all the suggestions. there's a variety with coral colored bark and green leaves that i've seen at the nursery on hwy 24 b/w cape carteret & morehead city that would be perfect.

i got a pm from LOVETHEZ who has a buddy at a japanese maple farm outside of nashville. we went out there friday and found 6 really really nice trees. way nicer than any ive seen in a store. the prices are great. im soooo happy we found out about this.

pm me for the buddy's number if you want it. very nice people, they really know their stuff. huge farm with over 70 varieties of jap maples. everything from 2' tall bushy types to huge 7' super beautiful full grown trees.

the ones at lowes look like absolute shit compared to these. we got 4-5' tall trees with nice brancing and lots of leaves for $50 each. 7 gallon pots i think, i could be wrong.
