Disco Kid? Was Don Flamenco somehow offensive?
3/25/2009 1:19:25 PM
I think they just wanted to introduce a new character with Disco Kid. Don Flamenco was a little boring in my opinion, but at least he looked just like Adam Sandler.
3/25/2009 2:01:32 PM
i've been looking for an excuse to exercise. any idea how much this will cost?
3/25/2009 2:16:10 PM
^ exercise?
3/25/2009 2:53:40 PM
He must have this confused with real boxing
3/25/2009 3:13:43 PM
Is Don out for sure? It only showed a few of the characters, and if you're refering to the sequence of them they also left out Piston Honda.

No they haven't confirmed anything about anyone being left out. They've only shown four opponents so far: Glass Joe, Von Kaiser, King Hippo, and Disco Kid.nm just saw that Don Flamenco has been confirmed.Source: http://kotaku.com/5183241/wii-punch+out-has-another-control-scheme-your-feetAnd from the article Drovkin posted, we have these money wasters to consider using:[Edited on March 25, 2009 at 4:35 PM. I love the power glove. It's so bad.
3/25/2009 8:49:26 PM
Given my track record with the original I don't think I want to play this when part of the normal operation of the game involves punching motions.
3/26/2009 8:51:30 AM
^^ LMAO....that actually came on HBO last month III
3/26/2009 3:13:47 PM

^Nice. I can revert back to simply throwing the controller then.
3/27/2009 10:42:55 AM
So is this just the original game but in 3D? It was a pretty short game so I hope they've expanded on it, especially since it will probably cost a bunch.
3/27/2009 10:59:11 AM

Don't own a wii, played Rock Band on a wii once:So, punching with one arm seems pretty intuitive. How do you control punching with the other? Does the nunchuck attachment have a motion sensor as well?
4/14/2009 8:48:46 AM
yup
4/14/2009 9:32:27 AM
Haha I guess they couldn't call Giga Mac Big Mac.
4/14/2009 10:31:12 AM
I hope this is good. The developer doesn't have much under their belt. I'm thinking about getting a Wii for someone's birthday and this would be a great game to bring out at parties.
4/14/2009 10:54:52 AM
Bump, just picked it up. Impressions to come in a bit.
5/19/2009 7:06:19 PM

any word on if it's forwards compatible with the motion plus?
5/19/2009 8:29:34 PM
nintendo power actually gave it its lowest rating so far, I guess they are objective
5/19/2009 8:38:47 PM
With comments like "It's disappointing that the motion controls are more a novelty than an effective way to play" I would highly doubt motion plus support would be in there.
5/19/2009 8:45:35 PM
^^ Nintendo Power isn't published by Nintendo anymore. The magazine got sold to FutureUS around 2 years ago.

Okay so I just played it for about an hour and a half and I'm impressed. I played both of the older two Punch-Out games so I was pleased to find all the familiar faces (and even their music) in the game. Initially I thought that they dumbed it down and made it way too easy:- If you make it through the three rounds, the win doesn't automatically go to the computer, it actually has some kind of way of calculating a winner.- You get three rematches as opposed to the one rematch of previous games.- If you get taken out by a specific boxer, you can go to "exhibition mode" and fight him there without having to go through the whole circuit to get to him. I thought these were giving us way too much leeway until I got to Don Flamenco who is the champion of the major circuit. He's a lot more difficult this time around and still resembles Adam Sandler. The next round was against Aran Ryan who I barely squeezed by, then Soda Popinksi who utterly destroyed me. I haven't played Punch-Out in a while, so I was a little rusty, but your reflexes really need to be up there in this game. In the older ones I could usually get by just by dodging except for a few cases, but in this one you really need to implement the duck and block more. I didn't try it out with the motion controls or with the balance board yet, I figured there wouldn't be a point to it. Given how fast you need to react in this game and how poorly the motion controls have been in other games, I didn't even bother. I'm pretty sure that the game plays best just by turning the Wiimote on its side like an NES controller. All the changes that they have made I would say are great. Obviously the graphics and sound have been updated, and unlike lots of remakes these days, they decided NOT TO FUCK WITH THE GAMEPLAY, which was the main selling point of the old school ones. The only real difference I can tell in gameplay is your super punch system. In the original NES, every time you hit your opponent at a specific time, you got a star that could be used as a super punch. In this go around, you get the stars the same way, but you can only go up to a max of three. Instead of using the stars one by one, you combine their force... so if you save up three stars without getting hit and unleash your super punch, you deal A LOT of damage.I haven't tried out multiplayer yet, so no opinions on how that works. So far, I'd recommend getting it.

5/19/2009 10:35:56 PM
^Really? I guess I must have just sucked. Every time it went passed three rounds on the original I lost the match.
5/19/2009 11:59:04 PM
I recall the manual of the original Punch Out saying that the decision was based on the number of points you scored. The number of points needed to win by decision generally increased as you progressed through the game.

5/20/2009 8:06:27 AM
In the first Punch-Out!! you were maxed at 3 stars also.
5/20/2009 11:40:51 AM
^^^Might've been 5000 points, but you could still lose to "cheating" judges.[Edited on May 20, 2009 at 12:09 PM. Reason : hehe]

Is King Hippo the main event fighter? I mean he was always the easiest to figure out and sure knockout.
5/20/2009 7:38:19 PM
The decision was very volatile. Yes, you could win (I remember beating Tyson several times via decision) but even the owner's manual says that there is a bias towards the other guy. For instance I tried fighting Glass Joe one time, knocking him down twice in each round and beating him up til his power bar was almost filled up, and not getting hit at all. He still won.
