I'm replacing the sound system in my '99 Wrangler. (just basic speakers and deck... no amp or sub)Apparently Mopar makes special factory speakers so that the brackets aren't compatable with ANYTHING!!! Has anyone run into this before... Surely I'm not the first person to replace factory speakers in a Jeep.(yes I found this! message_topic.aspx?topic=364434)Any advice anyone has would be awsome!

With enough research and ingenuity, it is definitely possible. The custom fab on my Grand's tweeters is proof. ^ Speaks the truth. Google and Jeep forums are going to be your best resource, but do your best to do some cross referencing. If you're such a 'wizzkid,' I'm sure you can figure it out.

As I was reading your post, I was thinking about that thread I made a 4+ years ago and was going to post the link, but you found it on your own. Those speakers are still in the car, and I'm still driving it...

it uses standard 4x6 speakers in the dash and 6 1/2 on the roll bar if it has them

I think that stock in the soundbar was 5.25. at least for mine it was. 6.5s have the same bolt pattern so use those. for my front speakers I just made a bracket for my old 5.25's from my soundbar wasn't too hard and I'm pretty sure there are some aftermarket brackets like what i made. I'm just a cheapass

yea should be 4x6 in the dash which will need an adapter plate thats pretty easy to find and the sound bar will take 5.25 if you use factory grils or 6.5s if you use the grills that come with them.

Do you really need a bracket to mount these speakers or is the hole spacing used by the speakers in your jeep different from whatever upgraded speakers you're looking at?My cherokee came stock with 5.25" speakers (2 front 2 back) and I just drilled new holes in the doors to get the replacement infinity speakers a decent place to mount. The speakers in the headliner in the back "fit" because I was able to warp the plastic a tiny bit to get the screws to line up (but not enough to break anything).

what's the vehicle in question here? if it's a wrangler why are we talking ab cherokees and grands? only the wrangler should need 4x6 adapter plates.

http://www.crutchfield.com/ seems to think you can use 4x6" speakers...they include the adapter plates with your purchase...

^^ Because it's a jeep and car audio systems aren't completely different between vehicles when you're talking about putting a speaker in it.I was just wondering if there was hesitation to put more holes in one's car or if the speaker arrangement absolutely required a special bracket to get the speakers to fit.^ And yeah, they give you everything you need to get the speakers to fit and function. They didn't give me any adapter for the cherokee considering the standard 5.25" holes didn't line up with the stock mopar speakers' holes, but, again, drilla drilla drilla.

In the wrangler you have to make/buy a bracket to get the 5.25 speakers to work

hahaha i remember this shit on my old 95 wrangler. fronts were a bitch. i remember being able to the the top two studs through the holes on an aftermarket speaker, that was it. didnt even put screws on
3/25/2009 11:55:33 PM
95 would be the yj, the tj's (96-02?) are a wholllllleee lot easier. two philips screws, pop a panel, and you're staring at the speaker and the screws/bolts for the speaker are really easy to get to.[Edited on March 26, 2009 at 12:33 AM. Reason : .]

Thanks for all the help guys! The rears are 5 1/4 and the fronts are 4X6 and YES they need that bracket.Crutchfield was awsome, I pretty much posted exactly what I posted here and that's when I found out that they'll sell me the brackets. Crutchfield reall seemed like they knew what they were talking about.. so we'll see. The speakers should be here today so we'll see how they fit!!!

Yeah, they have excellent customer service and ship you everything you need to install whatever you buy from them. If I hadn't bought from them I would've spent a lot of time splicing wires and would've had to clip more of the car's stock wires to install the thing. Made the job tidy and professional looking.
