i hadn't known that the bell tower itself was deteriorating. glad someone's raising awareness...having some real bells would be pretty nifty, too.

Yea very interesting story. I didn't think the Speaker Tower had that much history to it.

Speaker Tower...As soon as I get a job next September, Imma give a dolla or two.

there is no need to start adding stuff to the tower... it has been loved for half a century, and now some douchebag is stirring up shit. we have NO BUSINESS in spending money to "fix" this "problem" right now when faculty are being laid off, technology is being threatened, and everyone is hurting for money due to the economy.

If it is being raised by private donations, then they have every right to do it. I think its a nice story, and I'd chip in $50 to help it get done.

it's a historic monument and should be left the way it is, aside from maintenance work

If you read the article, the only changes that are requested is to add an interiror so you can have bells installed, and have a platform to play them with. I agree that it is great the way it looks, however, a speaker tower /= A BELL tower. why not raise private $ to get this going. I'd happily donate to this esp considering so much goes to the WPC already and what do I get with that?diddly squat
