I'm creating a sports information website dedicated to fulfilling the needs of casual sports watchers that aren't filled by espn.com, sports.yahoo.com, msn.foxsports.com, etc. I am also using this site to practice, so I'm not looking for profit, just something to do that interests me and possibly other people as well.Is there any information, analysis, or graphical data pertaining to sports that you would like to see on a site that hasn't been done already?

I would like a live updating chart of every major statistical category comparing Jordan to Kobe to Lebron. Then people can access it. Quickly answer their question. And shut the fuck up about it.

Just don't make it suck as bad as espn.com and I'd check it out.

^^haha, i hate espn's website, but the one reason i go to it is for the ease of finding the basic statsso do you just want ideas of different stats that you should have on there? if so, i suggest showing individual defensive stats for ncaa fball players (so few sites actually do this)[Edited on March 20, 2009 at 11:11 AM. What's the best defensive fielding metric in baseball? It seems there are so many variables that make it difficult to really gauge. We all know fielding % and zone rating are garbage...Also, please explain Win Shares, VORP, etc to the average baseball fan so I stop getting arguments against Carlos Beltran being the best CF in the game and potential borderline HOFer...

So you're just gonna have a couple random statistical categories for every major sport? Or are you gonna have lots of coverage? Either way you'll need a source (unless you plan on hand entering all the information). Something like Stats, Inc. And that'll cost a good deal of money.Look, I could list two dozen sites that have all kinds of shit you aren't going to find anywhere else. Most of which were started by guys with books and PhDs and consulting contracts. Unless you have a really unique idea, some great research, or just a shit ton of time on your hands, I'd suggest joining one of the already established communities. I'm not trying to be a wet blanket, but you're probably just wasting your time.[Edited on March 20, 2009 at 12:49 PM. Reason : ]
