watching it right now, i was surprised i didn't find a thread about it.your thoughts?
3/15/2009 9:24:31 PM
I caught the first 30 seconds or so.How horrible is it?
3/15/2009 9:25:22 PM
I saw a few posters the other day. summary?
3/15/2009 9:35:40 PM
not through the first half yet. watching on dvr to cut out commercials. so far its pretty uneventful. some podunk kid saves a kings son (imagine america as a monarchy). kid gets promoted kings kid is pissed. thats all ive seen so far. the only reason im watching is cause ian mcshane is in this, and i liked him in deadwood.

I have liked it thus far. It's a modern retelling of the rise of king David (David vs Goliath) with a twist. But yeah I'll give it a shot, Sundays are rather boring for me in regards to tvWhat I am really looking forward to is that new cop show SouthLAnd that they've been advertising. It looks good[Edited on March 15, 2009 at 9:52 PM. Reason : Add]

butterfly halo at the end was homo as hell. otherwise show was interesting. if it was on any other night it would have no chance.
3/15/2009 10:24:44 PM
Sunday night tv? 60 minutes ftw![Edited on March 15, 2009 at 10:42 PM. Reason : ]

Does the king say cocksucker every other line? If not, I am very disappointed.
3/15/2009 11:22:21 PM
I was going to record this but forgot. I'll catch up online if it looks like it'll stick around. Macaulay Culkin is the series at some point. Sunday nights tend to be my favorite of the week with a new 60 Minutes and whatever HBO is currently airing (Flight of the Conchords and Eastbound and Down).[Edited on March 16, 2009 at 12:58 AM. Sunday night = The UnitIt's actually pretty much the only TV drama I'll bother to remember watching.

^,^^ none of those shows are in the same timeslot as Kings. So check it out[Edited on March 16, 2009 at 7:28 AM. Reason : Space]
3/16/2009 7:26:33 AM
I watched it. I'll probably keep watching it. Look sufficiently interesting for me.
3/16/2009 9:56:19 AM
The main character seems to be a little over emotional for my tastes, and I also found the show to be uneventful with the full impression of them trying too hard. on the plus side it gave a good and clear indication of where it is going and I think a lot of people will be willing to watch it. they just need a few episodes to find their footing.but the butterfly thing was ~ as hell.
3/16/2009 12:24:52 PM
this show is going to be good as long as the main character doesn't become a douche.
3/18/2009 12:33:14 AM
I liked it. Though I do think the butterfly halo was a little meh. My question is though - do you guys think it actually happened to the king once before?
3/18/2009 6:41:08 AM
the way i took it, no.
3/18/2009 8:18:52 AM
Last night I saw a promo that showed the king standing in a forest full of butterflies. I wonder if thats a flashback or a sign of things to come.
3/18/2009 8:38:45 AM
Watched it on hulu today. So far it's good. I like the actor that plays David. But, the guy that plays the Kings son always plays the bad guy (Gossip Girl, The Covenant)
3/18/2009 1:55:53 PM
just watched the pilot... i enjoyed it a lot. i hope it doesn't fizzle out.
3/18/2009 6:16:17 PM
good episode tonight. much better than last weeks, could be a good series.
3/22/2009 9:16:35 PM
Yup. I'm in.
3/22/2009 9:43:35 PM
i want to get this to the top because i think it needs some discussion. If you're not watching this show, you should. the first episode was filled with commercials and fell victim to the series having to provide as much back story as they could. whereas this week's episode had some really good substance and provided a lot of foundation for more detailed twists later on. Pretty effective use of symbolism as well, which is oft missed from modern television.
3/23/2009 10:13:42 AM
Canceled.
4/7/2009 4:14:48 PM
FiguresIan McShane, like Samuel L. Jackon, only really thrives in a setting where the cocksucker/motherfucker ratio is 3.0 or higher
4/7/2009 4:18:05 PM
Not canceled, just moved to Saturday
4/7/2009 4:28:24 PM
Getting moved to Saturday is pretty much a death sentence for any showLeast eyeballs
4/7/2009 4:30:12 PM
jesus christ, NBC does this with nearly everything never giving a show a chance to develop even a remote fan base.
4/7/2009 4:30:57 PM
I thought it was just supposed to be a one season deal anyway. It's not canceled, there is no death sentence.
4/7/2009 4:31:39 PM
another report i just read said Saturday nights at 10 pm. That's pretty much a sign it's going there to die.NBC really sucks
4/7/2009 4:38:11 PM
i never heard anything about one season only.most likely they will show all the episodes they ordered, so hopefully we'll have a sense of closure.
4/7/2009 5:37:08 PM
the king gets sick and is on his death bedthe son and uncle's plan to overthrow the king is thwarted and they are banisheddavid and the princess marryking diesdavid is crowned king/series
4/7/2009 6:10:45 PM
yeah, but i'm sure they planned on covering the story of david's kingship as well, which is probably more interesting as he gets darker. hence the title King(s).
4/7/2009 6:16:06 PM
Oh, hell. I've been pretty into this show. Figures that new, ambitious, and unique would result in low ratings, time slot change, cancellation.
4/7/2009 7:36:16 PM
Americans are dumbI really don't understand why writers who are trying out original shit even submit their shows to networks (ok, yes i do -- everyone's got to eat). Still, they have to know that if the work is not derivative or reality, there is a 90% chance it will get cancelled.
4/7/2009 7:52:28 PM
shows like this belong on premium cable channels.
4/7/2009 8:30:47 PM
yeah, i feel like HBO should pick it up. then we can have ian mcshane swearing and all will be right with the world.
4/7/2009 9:50:14 PM
4/8/2009 11:18:34 PM
no doctorsno cops
4/12/2009 4:51:51 AM
so it picks up this coming saturdayeven my girlfriend was pissed that it was off.
4/13/2009 11:10:50 AM
the somali pirate situation went down EXACTLY like the last episode of kings
4/13/2009 8:15:54 PM
I fast forwarded through Dateline in disbelief that my DVR could make such a horrible mistake. Now I see it wasn't my busted ass TWC DVR, but NBC itself.
4/15/2009 3:37:34 PM
fuck it's done til june now
4/22/2009 4:14:46 PM
really? they might as well cancel it at this point. no one is going to pick back up on it and recall what was taking place. it'd be different if it were an established show and people could easily reconnect the pieces but this is just stupid.
4/22/2009 4:45:46 PM
yepLatest Episode : 01x06 - Judgment Day (Apr/18/2009) Next Episode : 01x07 - Brotherhood (Jun/13/2009)
4/22/2009 5:07:22 PM
can anyone explain some of the biblical parallels besides david and goliath obviously?
4/23/2009 4:28:11 AM
^no because that's boring. and the show is done, anyway
4/23/2009 9:27:49 AM
show came on saturday. it wasn't the one with macully as promised but the episode was pretty decent. i still think its done for. they didn't even provide a "next week on kings" from what I can tell.[Edited on June 15, 2009 at 10:50 PM. Reason : bttt]
6/15/2009 10:49:38 PM
Ian McShane is fantastic. Some of the heavy handed biblical allegory gets old, and captain whats is face is a total dink. Without Silas and his hot daughter it probably would never have gone past a pilot.
6/15/2009 11:01:55 PM
I feel like if they had Ryan from the OC in this instead of Eragorn this would have made it. It always threw me when they had the Southland commercials during this cause I feel like they look very similar and I'd stop FFing because I thought the show was back on.
